With the increase in gas prices and airline tickets, I was wondering, will you continue to travel out west or even up north to ski? For me, the answer is yes and I hope to travel even more than past years due to my increased skiing addiction.

Yes...I expect this season to be at least as steezy as last season travel-wise...even if it means spending more and saving less..

Prolly about the same, if the Pokes have a better snow season I'd like to get an extra 5-10 daytrips in. If not I'll try to extend my season later into the spring and head north. A solo trip out west is doubtful. Doing the ski club routine for that.

I've haven't skied out west yet but hope to some day. I have driven and will drive 3 1/2 hours each way for a couple of day trips to Mount Snow which I consider far and I will drive even farther for overnight trips, gas prices really don't phase me 'cause I drive a Corolla.

I voted less, but to be honest, I didn't get out of state much last season. 2 days in VT in late season (post-injury) plus A-basin (which was a last minute thing, I didn't plan on that).

It's more like I'm less-inclined to travel because of the cost of gas. And increased airline fares. And all that crap that goes along with it. Though I still want to do the overnight in MRV that I had to bail on last season. Money is extremely tight for us and so these things do make a difference.

No impact on my skiing. I will try to reduce costs, but not at the price of time on the slope.

In other news, I'm looking for someone to carpool with up to the Rutland, VT area on November 15th. And 29th. And December 6th. And 13th...

We were pretty much in VT every weekend last winter. I don't see that happening this year with gas & heating oil prices. But we will see. Our current plan is to get season passes to Sundown, ski there during the week and every other weekend. Then head up North on the alternating weekends.

I think that our routine will stay the same. Will cut expenses somewhere else and continue to ski as much as possible.

I have to say that we have made some changes in our plans due to the increased cost of travel. I probably will not get to the west this year. We've had a good run of going out as a family for at least 15 straight years but a change in school scheduling combined with the rising airfares not to mention the baggage charges will probably keep us on the east coast. Thankfully we have some great skiing with in 6 hours of home which is just about all I can stand behind the wheel.

Hmmm...I voted NO. To me that means I prolly won't get to Sugarloaf, Sugarbush, Sunday River, Jay.

Anything over 3 hrs is off the list.

Not a big change for me...just a more adamant (sp?) stance.

I'd love to hit Burke and others....but the cost to get there PLUS the lost time on the slopes...I'm more inclined to hit the places I get the discount with my Wa pass that I can hit within the 3 hr mark...and mid-week.

Stratton, Okemo, Sunapee....with Cannon and Wildact as the exceptions.

An AZ event could change my stance.

i voted less. i'll ski more locally in CT, probably the once-a-week pass @ skisundown. trips up north will still occur but not likely as many as last year.

I will be pretty much the same day trip distance from most areas this season as last - 1.5-2 hours. I'll lack a decent hill or really any for that matter within an hour like I did last season with Shawnee, which will hurt. I'll travel further for 4 overnight 2 day trips in Vermont, but overall it will work out to about the same miles traveled next winter as last, but hopefully five additional days on the slopes :daffy:

Based on this poll..I definitely see Northern New England and Rocky Mountain resorts having a tough 08-09 season. People in general are already driving less and higher gasoline and heating oil prices is tapping into disposable income of many. True die-hards will find a way to ski whether carpool, earn turns, work at the resort or just cut costs on less important things than skiing. But non die-hard..less than 10 day a year skiers and riders who aren't posting in polls like this will most likely ski alot less..at least away from local ski areas. I seriously see regional resorts like Wachusett, Mountain Creek, Hunter, Camelback, Blue mountain, along with Front Range Colorado resorts, Tahoe resorts, Southern New England resorts and SLC resorts to do the best due to easy access from major population centers and/or major airports. I see out of the way places as doing worse. Places like Blue Knob, Saddleback, Burke, and Montana resorts come to mind. Just my inflation adjusted 2 cents

to continue on this:

i think that is going to be the familys that do the long weekend or weekend trips that are going to be thinking twice about those trips. the people that are doing a full week are not realy going to think twice becaue they are throwing down the dosh and gas is a very small percentage of the overall cost of a week. this is in no way going to effect the hords of oversees clientel the resorst have comming in.

Most of the overseas people at Stowe and Jackson Hole mainly ski the herd routes...and don't seek out the fresh Poe...mad Edgar Allen...what what
