October 27th, MRG, Fall Line.

I don't have my pictures from that day handy, so words will have to suffice for now. Through some trick of wind and snow, the top of the Single Chair was buried deeper than I have ever seen it, even mid-season. Frankly, it was the best first run of all my ski seasons. Floaty untracked powder on steep rocky terrain before Halloween? Who would have guessed?

The next few days rocked too. Sugarbush untracked on Paradise and Ripcord, still dry and fluffy, and to finish up October with a run down Rumble was just one sweet cherry on top of it all.

from the department of redundancy

I believe it's full name is the "Department of redundany and repetition Department":spin:

My first last season was (Not so) Great Northern to Upper East Fall. My first runs of the season are generally not all that memorable.

The first run always rocks............

My first run of the season is the same one each year (unless we get that odd Oct storm). Once my local hill starts making snow, I hike up from LP base to the top of the hill, hike over the LT for about 2 miles and ski down from the summit of SB until the snow runs out. It's a great first run, I get to hike as well, and when the hiking ends, I get to ski down.........................then it's off to the Tav. I typically finish area skiing the same way..........skin to the top (cus there is enough base when they close LP) ski one last Organgrinder to the bottom, and then...................head to the Tav..........In the end, it all gets back to the Tav................

Not as quickly, but still making progress.

Any progress is good progress. Not surprising that the biggest strides are made early on (not that I really would know - I have to struggle to gain weight.....skinny bastard... )

1st run last year was on FIS at Pat's Peak. It was the first leg of 2 giant slalom NASTAR runs for the AZ Race team. Don't recall the date - 1st Monday in December sounds about right.

I had never been to Pat's before, got a late start from my office and got from the parking lot to the top of the course in about 5 minutes. I think I got about 15-20 turns in before I got in the gate, but I actually managed to post a time, which was good......:dunce:

I remember loading the gondola at kamrt that sunday in october but i dont quite rememebr the run. I think we may have poached racers edge after we found the glades triple down but not sure that could have been the second or third run.
