Golf is my main summer activity, and I've been pretty obsessed about it for the last couple of years (took it up a little over 10 years ago). Got some new equipment this season, played 25+ rounds already, and got the handicap down to an 8.1 index with some decent scores lately; love this game!

So who are the golfers here?? We should plan an AlpineZone Connecticut golf outing!

Yeah, I do play a lot - was done skiing relatively early this season and got out on the course by mid-April :)

I used to play mostly at Simsbury Farms and often at Tunxis before I joined the Golf Club of Avon 5 years ago. Played Wintonbury a few times, never been to Gillette Ridge but want to at some point; same with Blackledge (you played there?).

Where do you play?

I usually get out 0-5 times per year. I can totally see the appeal and I do enjoy every outing. I worked at a driving range one summer so I spent a lot of time whacking balls and listening in on pro lessons. Still, I'm pretty feeble and usually shoot a 115 or so. My putting sucks and my short game is very weak. It's something I can definitely see myself doing more once home life settles down a bit. I feel golf is unnecessarily criticised, mostly by people that never even tried it.

Greg stick to the putting , i shot an 85 yesterday one of my better rounds and 3 putted only once on a very hard course, but i still had 31 putts. Makes me wonder why ive bought about 5 drivers all 300 dollars and i have a 30 dollar walmart putter, maybe since im always gonna use it 25 times i should spend the money on a putter..

I personally don't have the patience for golf.

Offseason activities are Volleyball, fishing and hiking for me...

I'm probably in the 0 - 3 range. The only round I played last year was with a sprained thumb (lax injury). A friend of mine gave me a set of Ping Eye 2s that were to short for him. All they needed was new grips. I'm pumped to use them but once that baby comes there will be no golf for me this summer. There are too many other activities I would like to squeeze in that are less frustrating than golf.

I play all the time. My index is a 9.4. Was much higher and last year I consetrated on my short game. Dropped from a 14 to 9 in one year. There is another reason beside putting that dropped the score but that is a different story.

Get your putter fitted. You can do it yourself. Get over the ball where you feel comfortable. Then have a buddy get on the ground and see that the putter blade is flush. If is isn't keep bending it till it is. that will help you right off the bat.

Those ping 2's keep those clubs they will never go out of style.

I generally play up to 20 times a year but 7-10 are on my florida late april trip to the in-laws. If any of you want to play Mt. Sneaux I could join you.

My buddy wanted to give them to me but I refused. He is a big saltwater fisherman so I plan on returning the favor with a new reel or something he can get some use out of. I went from a set or knock of Tommy Armour irons purchased for $150 in college to a classic set of Eye 2s. This scrub golfer was very excited.

Wow, with a handicap in the low single digits, you gotta be really good - BIG difference between say a 2 and an 8! But with only occasional play (and none once the baby comes), you're going to have a hard time playing at that level :)

I joined this club 5 years ago and was a 24 handicap; got down to around 15-16 two years ago, but that was relatively easy. Like you, I spent a lot of time working on the short game last year and continue to do so this year, and am now down to an 8.1 - at this level, it's hard to drop strokes without being totally on your game, I think. The encouraging this is that I've had good rounds where I shoot 76-77, and last week my putting was pretty bad but I still salvaged a 79 (our course is a par 71, slope of 129).

I got new irons (fitted earlier this season) and in my search for a new driver, I went to a club fitter near Boston. Vector launch monitor analysis, etc. led me to Wishon components; found I need to be using regular shafts, not stiff (have a smooth, easy tempo which results in a slower swing speed even though I come through the ball pretty well), so now I'm replacing those irons too. Anyone want to buy like-new Titleist 755 4-PW with Dynamic Gold S300 stiff shafts? :)

I'm going back up to him Saturday to get my putter's shaft cut down a bit and to add some weight to it.

I am done with new clubs for a while. I used to get new woods and irons every other year. Did not help me at all. I have g-2, r-5s, Volki Wedges, and a two ball putter. They work fine. The only thing i am going to do is get rid of my 5 iron for a 9 wood. My buddies make fun of me but when I am nailing the green from 190 with my 7 woods they dont thinks it to funny. Move to LP last summer so golf has taken a back seat to riding the bike. I still practice 3 times a week and play once or twice. Have not found a playing partner up here, once that happens I am sure it will pcik up again.

HA! I meant that I play 0 - 3 times per year. I had one good summer when I waited tables up at Cape Cod. I would play 3 or 4 times per week. I was playing par/bogey golf. These days I'm playing bogey/double bogey golf.

It's all about getting properly fit where new equipment is concerned - makes more of a difference that which OEM/component you pick - so I'm glad I found someone who has a good understanding of the process.

LP eh? You should compete in that Ironman they got in a few weeks :) Got a guy at work that trains a lot for these, and competes all over the country.
