So the Slutzkys then persuaded a group of New York City theater investors to build the ski area, which opened for the winter of 1959-60 for 30 days. But after three years, the financiers ran out of money, and the Slutzkys took over.

Opening day to skiers at Hunter Mountain was January 9, 1960.

My uncle and dad answered an ad in the Albany Times Union (I think that was the newspaper) for ski instructors needed at Hunter Mt. in 1961. They took the job and my dad was an instructor there for around 25 years. Although the last 8-10 years he was in more like a "supervisor" type role for Karl Platner. There where a couple of guys like that. The called themselves the Avalanche Patrol, they didn't have to teach and the sure got to ski alot.

The "old" hunter fascinates me..
