It's a long way out, but it may get marginally cold enough next weekend for some areas to go for Thanksgiving once all the rain moves out after this week. All of the areas that made snow last weekend will probably have all of it washed away this week because it's going to be in the 50s this week with 2 rainy Nor'Easters, each of which should last at least a day if not 2. Let's just hope the forecast of a cooldown stays intact through the week.

I'm still depressed. The snow better get here soon, I've already put away the boat for the winter. I'm ready to glisse al-fricken-ready.

If it isn't cold enough for anyone to open by thanksgiving then that is a sad statement about the future of east coast skiing.

Things go in cycles but it can get depressing. I was in Pittsburgh a week ago and it was in the 20s each morning, now we're back to these @*%&@( warm temperatures. I had thought based upon that cold snap we might get out Thanksgiving weekend but now I'm hoping for the first week in December. Remember those two good dumps we got in NE last December? Hopefully we'll get that again and then stay that way and continue on to be like 2004-05 with record snow totals!

I'm less depressed than I was that I have to be in Arkansas over T-giving now that there isn't any snow. So, there's that, at least.

It might be colder there than it is here over thanksgiving. What with it snowing in west virginia and higher elevations of N.C. today.

No I don't. Oh wait....those were for the southern ski areas. We never got more than 4 inches in a storm up here in N-NE.

actually, last year stowe got a foot and a half for december 4th and jay peak got another foot and a half for december 10th and jay reported a week long total of 40" for the first week and a half of december. i remember those dumps well as some of the best powder of the season. most especially i remember slamming into a tree on a closed beaver pond glades with more than enough coverage despite not being open.

the first three weeks of december 2005 was one of the best ski periods in my life. I remember 12/7 very clearly, jay only reported 12" or so when it was more like 24"+ of blower, waist deep turns everywhere. most of the snow that fell during the month was upslope/lake effect, so it was pretty much localized to the northern greens.

Oh yeah...forgot about those I guess. Probably because that was during the exam period and I was skiing somewhere else. I stand corrected.

The first three weeks of december were also great at whiteface. They had like 35 inches of up slope snow, alberta clippers and extended lake effect snow in one week. The whole mountain was open by xmas.

Latest forecast: Snowmaking temps should return to northern NE by Saturday night and even southern NE by Sunday night. It is currently looking like at least the first half of Thanksgiving Week will get progressively colder and stay dry. Long range models are showing a late week storm which would inevitably mean at least some warmup but that's a very long way off so obviously we'll watch day by day.

Brian and I skied during the height of the storm. Probably 8" in a 4 hour period from 8 am to noon on top of the 5" they got overnight.
