Currently looking like a pattern shift will start around this Saturday. After an initial 15-20 degree cooldown, it will slowly continue to cool through much of next week. Our first clipper system could come through next Monday which could mean southern NE's first snowfall of the season.

Well, if it makes anyone feel better.. at least this warm up isn't AFTER we've been skiing for a month.. once the snow base thaws and then freezes..we're pretty much screwed....

So, I'm unhappy about not being able to ski...but relieved it's not January...

And a lot of Western Resorts don't open until Thanksgiving...so it's not really that unusual.

Indeed. I look at this as just getting the January thaw out of the way early.... ;)

Last year started with a dump, then continued with rain.

This year is starting with the rain, perhaps it will continue with dumps.

Well the west is about ready to open after this storm- looks like Utah and Colo. are going to get dumped on.
I totally agree- at least this isn't january. Lets get this warm spell outta here and get some cold temps.

A late night update here...

Snowmaking temps may even return Friday night in the highest elevations of VT. If not Friday, then more than likely Saturday. By Monday some of the highest elevations may be able to blow through the day. Still looking at the chance for a small natural snow event next Monday. Unfortunately, it appears a short lived warmup may hit with some precip from a low late in the week. Most areas should be able to open before that hits and it should be short lived as cold air will likely wrap around the backside of the storm. However, it will probably hinder expansion efforts for a few days. Of course, this is 10 days away so who knows what will really happen.

Our forecast is similar. It looks like we will be back into snowmaking late Friday or Saturday and will shoot to get the top of Mount Ellen open as soon as possible. Looking better now for some skiing and riding by Thanksgiving if not before. We had a very good base up there before the past couple of days.

Getting a little too personal there, Smokejack.

I know you'll sleep better tonight knowing my digestive system is working properly.

PSA - even one habenero pepper even with most of the seeds removed still makes a batch of burrito filling rediculously hot.

That is all.

Latest forecast: No natural for early next week at this point, but it will be MUCH colder starting Saturday night. From Sunday on, it will keep getting progressively colder through at least next Friday. Next Thursday-Saturday look to be the coldest days of the week at this point. Most major areas with good snowmaking such as Killington, Okemo, Sugarbush, Sunday River, Sugarloaf, Loon, Waterville, Jiminy, Wachusett, Sunapee, Mt Snow, etc should be able to open something by next Friday with pretty much every area blowing by then.

Yeah, Killington claims on their website they'll be open by the holiday.

Dear Lord I hope so. I've almost finished cleaning out the fridge and I need diversion.

(I'm still alive, btw).

NOAA extended forecasts tell of a possible weak storm tracking across the Great Lakes later next week with rain ahead of it and snow on the backside.

The strong Pacific jet looks to get going again late this month with warmer temps yet again.

I wonder where all the cold air in Alaska/Canada will go?

Right now it is 62F here in Enfield, yuck.

Winter please come
