If it starts to rain while I am skiing I will keep going, but i wont head out on the road knowing it will be all day in the rain. Temps don't effect me, I will ski no matter how cold.

Many years ago my family went up to Jimney and it was super cold, like -50 or so at the top with wind chill. They were giving out vouchers to people, because it was so cold for them. My family all decided to take the vouchers but me and my friend skied all day, on the empty trails.

I don't know . . . Rain sucks . . .

If I had a trip scheduled and the forecast was for socked in rain the whole weekend, I'd cancel the trip.

I do ski in all conditions, and have had some good days when it's lightly sprinkling or just misting out, but full on rain is tough to handle. Every time you sit on the lift, you just want to end it.

I hate rain. And with the nearest hill 3 hours away I won't bother. As far as cold , I've skied in -44 windchill with little problem, hell some of the best days I've had have been freezing cold. Blizzards, whiteouts, it's all good...except rain.

...With respect to the question....and borrowing some of slug's....my #1 favorite weather still is being out in a blizzard/whiteout, provided it's nothing like the Arctic.. Whether on foot, on skis, or in a 4x4 I really love winter weather and even if not skiing I've always had fun times out in a winter storm....the breatheable and waterproof materials of today are sadly expensive, but are so nice to wear.
The extremes...warm with rain and extremely cold, namely the high-windchill days...those raw, -20(& lower) Sugarloaf/Loon/Katahdin days in January, especially after having tasted a little frostebite decades ago...just don't float my boat anymore when doing it solo, but when I have company, well then you seem to gain a little more stamina.
I think it was early February 2000, bunch of us decided to hit Loon early....turned out to be one of the coldest days I've ever attempted...~ -60F @top. One BRUTAL trip up & down..that was IT(but jeez the snow Was great!) ;-) Trucked on over to Woodstock, NH....(forgot name of pub & restaurant where you go thru the driveway to park out back)...had to be close to 200 people in the place...the bar was open @~9am...;-)

didn't we just have this thread?

anyway rainy day skiing is better than skiing when the cold front blows in and freezes it all up. less people, or sometimes almost no people. i almost mowed down a pack of wild turkeys at sunday river last spring, maybe a dozen people there (mostly az folks)

Took a bus trip to Okemo last January and freezing rain fell the whole day. I made the most of my day trip and skied from bell to bell. I didn't have a waterproof bib and was soaked through. When I entered the lodge at the end, I had ice all over me and it cracked as I moved. I was basically a walking ice cube. Some kid looked at me and got scared! Kid went up to his mom and said: "Mommy, that man's been skiing a long time!"

I'll ski in any weather as long as it is on my pass. Some days I will cut it short, but I will go regardless of the weather. I have had some great snow coditions in the rain and fog. Usually the snow will be soft and spring like. It is the deep freeze after that sucks! Then you need super sharp edges.
