I'd use some of them for a trip out west. Monday-Thursday are the least crowded days and Friday is slightly more crowded, especially in the afternoon..

Midweek, the best!

I want to use a couple of vacation days a week starting January through mid March. I want to go mid week but what would be the best days. Should I split them up or take them consecutively. I am planning long weekends (4 days) for several trips. I am leaning to a split Tuesday / Thursday format. Any Suggestions? My vacation schedule is now in your hands....

Ah, I love midweek skiing. You get spoiled real fast. I am faced with a task similar to yours, though I have more days to burn. Here are my decision factors. There are no hard and fast rules, depends on the resort:

1. I go when the skiing looking best, regardless of the day. I typically get out powder day +1.(This worked well last year when we had good snows midweek and then it rained on the weekends - you just never know.) I tend to do one day at a time for midweeks. My schedule really cannot tolerate lots of multiple midweek days. Make sure your family can tolerate it too!
2. Fridays is the busiest of all days, relatively speaking. Depending on resorts, there may actually be lines.
3. School vacation midweek should generally be avoided, with exceptions of course. If you must go, the second half of the week is generally fewer crowds.
4. Be aware of which lifts will be running midweek. You may not be able to get to everything you want. Some resorts will also close a trail midweek during the afternoon for race training.
5. Mondays is often the least crowded day, but be careful of the grooming staff if you do that. Trails get pretty beat-up on the weekend, especially blues and sometimes black. Not every resort gets them all maintained again by Monday morning.
6. Midweek days that have 2-fers can be a lot busier, but are still tolerable compared to weekends.
7. If you are into events like NASTAR, you should check the schedules. Many events have sporadic or non-existent events midweek.
8. Midweek is a great time to take a group lesson - they often become privates!

Use them now while the snow is good, who knows what next month will bring. I would if I could, that is for sure. But I am working 11 hour days and still behind at this point.

I have tried week long ski vacations and it never works out. The conditions might not be that good or you might not have the stamina for a full week or you may hurt yourself and need to head home (these have all happened to me). Years ago I learned to cherry pick the best days of the season by taking mid-week vacation days one and two at a time. This is also a useful option because you can go on the cheapest days at various resorts by keeping track of discounts being offered.

Use them when the snow is good! Any weekday is ok except Fri. I only ski weekdays and like Weds the best because it splits the week nicely, but a good storm always rules my choices.

I ski almost exclusively on weekdays except for the occasional weekend with the family. I think Tuesdays through Thursdays are the best followed by Monday, with Friday being the busiest weekday. I've also seen at least one resort around my area that charges a higher price on Friday than they do the rest of the week. The problem is that once you start riding on weekdays you won't like the weekends nearly as much.

Agreed 100% For example, I am probably taking this Friday to ski in the Berks and next Monday to ski whoever has the most. Opportunistic, absolutely. You never can tell what Ullr and El Nino are up to behind closed doors.
