Hey All,
I'm back from a fun session at Blue mountain. Work today was hectic and sucky but I managed to get out at 3:15PM and arrived at Blue around 340PM. The temperature was 58 degrees under cloudy skys with moderate to strong winds out of the south. There were at most 50 cars in the lower parking lot. I first skied Challenge which was mostly soft hero snow with a few areas of carvable ice. Lazy Mile had the smoothest hero snow on the mountain right down to the two curves..Lazy Mile is such a treat when it's empty. Barneys bumps were OK but melted out alot so they were smaller than yesterday and lower Main Street was Choppy. I skied Challenge the most and one run I saw Tele-Ben...for those who don't know him..Tele-Ben used to post on PASR and he is a Camelback ski patroller who skis Blue on his days off. He's the guy with Tele bindings mounted to Public Enemys and he often Teles switch.
One lift ride I was on with these two guys who talked about bombing Challenge..I asked if they wanted to race and only one of them wanted to. He then said,"Wait you must be fast since you wear a helmet"...I told him that I was going to beat him but I'd give him a headstart to keep it interesting. I gave him a 6-7 second headstart(about half the top headwall of Challenge) and then took off..I passed him right before Falls and then got into my Bullet tuck and beat him by a solid 100 yards(6-7 more seconds)...pretty fun stuff..The adrenaline rush of skiing fast is one of the reasons I'll always be a skier..another reason is that it just puts me in a good mood..Carving GS turns down an empty lazy mile in spring temperatures on an empty Monday evening was EPIC it's impossible not to have a perma-grin on my face..I also made some GS turns on Challenge and I was feeling more G's than an Oakland hooker..lol..
I ended up skiing until 6PM for a total of 16 runs and 16,800 vert....I no longer have any early season rust..after skiing 13 of the past 16 days..I'm in midseason form..and psyched to ski again tomorrow...what a great session..I'm still feeling a bit of an afterglow...
