It is far safer than driving drunk, texting on a cell phone or shaving while driving and i wear my seat belt. I used the hockey stick rig to get around with a standard truck when I had a broken leg. I used the same set up to drive to the hill with ski boots on.

Something tells me you aren't going to like the way I rode my motorcycle with a broken left hand using a length of twine tied to clutch lever and around my right shoulder. By moving my left elbow back the clutch lever was pulled in so shifting was easy. I stopped working construction to get away from the injuries.

Talisman you sound like a unique individual who can improvise and come up with solutions to certain challenges/problems. However I question whether it is safe for ordinary mere mortals to do that kind of stuff.

Boot up in the parking lot. (unless I'm in lot #11 out of 10). I hate carrying extra shite into the lodge and looking for a place to stash it. In general I stay the hell out of the lodge until it is time for an end of the day brew.

If I'm at my home hill it' the lot 100% of the time. From where we park your maybe 30' away from the lift. If out of town we lodge it.

that heated bootbag sounds like a good idea for those cold day trips.

Lodge. We get to the mountain early. Drop family off then park the car. Boots, helmet, lunch in the Transpak. Tuck the pack away until lunch.

always the lodge. the transpack is great so lugging stuff is no problem. i try to keep the inside of my boots as dry as possible, moisture means cold, and will change into ski socks at the lodge. my atomic wide fit boots are made of pretty soft material and the heal part wears down . i had to replace them once already and atomic told me the don't make that part anymore (bastards) thats to bad cause i like the boots. i walk as gingerly as possible around the outside of the lodge and try to stay on the snow just to save them.

At Camelback we rent a seasonal locker in what is now known as the Fireside Club. The lockers are big enough for ski's and poles. I usually come to the mountain in street clothes and change to ski clothes and boot up in the locker room. Its nice to be able to change back to street clothes before hitting apres ski at the bar.

On the road like many others have said it mostly depends on the temperature. If its at all cold I'll head for the lodge but if its spring (and not too muddy) I boot up at the car.

If I'm up north it's almost always at the car. At Wachusett, it's about half an half. If it's cold out or I just feel like doing it, I go inside. If it's warm or snowing (in which case I don't want that snow getting in my boots on the walk to the lodge), I do it at the car.

lot: when i am alone or with a friend
lodge: when i am with my family

Bing, bing, bing, bing, bing, bing. Winner.

How many kids under 10 can you boot up in the lot? Kinda like herding cats...thus the lodge is the no brainer. Actually, kids below 7 almost require the ski on ski off.

Very nice to have the kids cracking 10 so I can day trip and have them get into the under garments at 5am and then into the boots in the lodge at 8am.

Slowly. Getting. Back. To. Normal. Life.

Actually Steeze if I was younger and single like you I would probably act like you. That is go to the mountain, ski, leave the mountain. But I tend to spend alot of time at the mountain even when I'm not skiing. My daughter works there and my son is on the racing team. It's nice not to have to trudge around in ski clothes. The locker room at Camelback is not cheap and they want to up it which may become a problem, but for now it's worth it.

It took a real long time to get all my kids to just carry all their own gear! Then it was, "I'm hungry, cold, tired, gotta go to the bathroom, can't find my gloves, socks, my boots hurt." By the time they were all ready to go, I would look down and see I hadn't even gotten my own boots on. My wife says, "you'd better get out there with them before they start complaining they're too hot!"

what;s like herding cats is if you have people in your group who are not ready to ski. the lodge just exacerbates the situation with all the distractions-bathroom break, breakfast, obligatory hot chocolate, sitting around and chatting, adjusting 100 pieces of clothing.....if you have a person or 2 in your group who is not ready to ski and takes alot of time getting ready in the lodge before you know it, 30 minutes of your limited day is over! you know who those people are, they are the ones who try to get the whole group to wait for them at every turn!

I like to hit the ground running. i like to take a couple of runs and then maybe break at an upper mountain lodge around 10:30 or so if only for the bathroom. of course these are more weekend rules than weekday rules. on the weekdays, you probably can take a little extra time if you want.
