Bretton Woods adds two more non related ski features

It’s been a while since I posted since I tend to get busy during the off season. Having said that, not sure if this got brought up….

I usually go up to bretton woods to start the year. The notch has been great for getting snow when other places get rain. It’s usually 50-50 that the glades will be open, this year I was able to score and they were awesome considering how early it is. Another thing I noticed is the place added two more non related ski features; indoor rock climbing and an outdoor gated track with miniature snowmobiles. Couple this to the zip lines they have started a couple of seasons ago. Just wondering if other family oriented ski resorts have already done this and will it be the start of a trend.

The climbing wall was there last year. I haven't noticed the snowmobiles. If you look around every family oriented resort is trying anything short of opening a casino to boost revenue.

Well said.

As long as it doesn't distract from the skiing (budget and staff), it's not a bad idea.

Jack, could you elaborate on these "miniature snowmobiles" , are they just low powered sleds, or are they some kinda custom machines? Also kind of confused about the @$$ noodling, but who am I to judge. lol

They are indeed small mini-snowmobiles, too small for adults. The kids drive them around in a corral, as in bumper cars (not!)

I went there in April 2011 for the first time in many years and was blown away by the changes. The Canopy Tour looked pretty kick ass. The fact that you start up at the top of the Bethlehem Quad and worked your way to the base was impressive. Much better than the single pole-to-pole zip lines you see at other places.

Here's a vid...

BW had them in a netted area between the two high speed lifts down at the base, the course and had rollers instead of flat terrain.

Great fun for kids. Yes, now I remember the rollers. I was there on Friday Dec 28. By the way, the mini-snowmobiles were popular with the little kids. Teens were also doing the rock climbing in the lodge (one of the few places you could stand with airspace around you). The lodge was filled to the max; shoulder-to-shoulder people. No place to sit except the floor. People were also doing the canopy tour. I did it this last summer; BWoods does a good job of taking you on a nice long ride with plenty of long, high ropes. $$

Still surprises me now and then when I'm quietly floating through the fresh in the glades and hear the high pitched wine of a zip line traveler above me. Skyward is not a direction I typically expect sounds to be coming from in the woods. Definitely need to check above before writing ones name in the snow...

Yeah I've had that same experience. I hear that sound and look around quick. I've yet to actually see the person zipping over me.

I was there with my daughter, thur 27th and frid 28th. Thur was fun, snow dumping on us all day and getting freshies on agazzi and grannys grit, we had to get inside twice to dry off. Frid was awesome once they open up west glades.

It could be my imagination, it seems bw is slow with the groomers after a good snow dump, they left most of the trails alone. two seasons ago xmas week, they got over 12 inches and left most of the trails on west alone, had some decent size bumps for a couple of days.

They are good like that. Once the season hits its stride nearly every trail has a strip (sometimes huge) of ungroomed. One of the things they do right.
