I still don't understand to this day why Fairbanks closed Brodie. The money spent for the high speed 6 lift, 50% more snowmaking, and condos, condos, condos could've been used to make badly needed improvements at Brodie. Obviously, Jiminy's improvements weren't necessary as the ski area was already doing well.

Quite simple, Jiminy got it's stable and significant skier/rider base by making constant improvements to the entire mountain over the years. Brian Fairbanks has chosen to invest his $$ in keeping up with those regular improvements that his customers now expect. And it's much easier(and cheaper) to keep an existing customer than attract a new one. Plus, realistically there just isn't the customer base to support both Jiminy and Brodie in that small area and have both of them run as modern ski area that Brian Fairbanks would want.

Well said. It's always sad when a ski area ends up on NELSAP, but even if Brodie was operational, I probably wouldn't ski there much, if at all. I just didn't care for the trail layout there, but I only skied there once so maybe there was more than what meets the eye.

Because the money they have and can pull in from Jiminy far exceeded anything Brodie could have ever done by many times over?

We used to go 20 or so years ago to ski on the green snow on St. Patrick's day (and maybe have a refreshment or two)

Could Brodie be a viable ski area again with significant investment or is the product at Jimminy that much better of an option. I seem to recall reading as a kid that Brodie had the highest vertical drop in Mass.

If I remember correctly, it doesn't matter if it has the potential to or not, as the sale agreement said it couldn't be a public ski area again.
