Those of you more familiar with this area...Is this a realistic opening date??? I 'm thrilled to think I could be skiing in less than 2 weeks. Belleayre is closer to drive to for a day of skiing than going all the way to Killington, so I'm really hoping for the best .

Belleayre, Hunter and Jiminy are the early season players near you. The Catskill areas are probably the better bet. If the forecast looked a bit colder, then I would say that Jiminy is a possibility, but probably not until closer to Thanksgiving. Keep an eye here. You'll know when we know.

If i recall correctly, Belleayre opened on time (the date they said they would) in 2004 and 2005. Hopefully they'll keep that track record up and open on time in 2006.

I was in Belleayre in 2005 when they first opened and it was pretty much a waste of money and time for me (driving up from NJ). The 6 hours in the car was not worth a single trail, lower Onteora or whatever, its as flat as most greens in VT and was suprisingly full of people. I counted 16 runs in 2 hours and drove back home. I think it might be better to wait a week longer and allow them to open up the double diamond part of Onteora, which has less people and is much steeper. Thats what I did in 2004 and will probably do the same this year again.

They are going to have good snow making conditions and there way that the lake effect machine is blowing right now they might get some leftovers that add a little natural snow. I would wait a little bit however if you want top down.

I'll be visiting my place up the road from there this weekend. I'll check it out.

i think it may be easier for them to open 'substantial' terrain (not a rope tow on 100 vertical ft) than most other ski areas in the east. upper mountain runs are short with reasonably high altitude. a little steep at the top but they should be able to cover a trail in 48 hrs which if they really wanted means they could have terrain open for sunday. would certainly make for a nice hiking alternative this weekend.

When they open, they'll have a good amount of choices to enjoy... I certainly expect their terrain park to open... here is the picture of the day from their site.

no, when they open it will be the 2 lower trials to right of 7 lift thats the way its been..unless we go into a early deep freeze..long term call for rain 11/12 and a few days that week after..again if temps stay on lower side it would make for a sweet early season. And at this point a ski day is a ski day.

I was at Belleayre today. There were a number of people earning their turns skiing and riding today. They have been making snow for a few days now. :p

Also posted on their website:
BUY ONE NOW - GET ONE FREE LATER LIFT TICKETS for opening weekend! That's right - if you purchase a ski lift ticket opening weekend you can bring that ticket back anytime after March 18, 2007 until we close and you’ll get a free anytime lift ticket of equal value! It's like skiing for free!
