Many threads in AZ have referenced that many members count how many days they get in each season. I keep a spreadsheet with dates and the mountains I’ve skied. I’m not really sure why I do it, I just know I like to.

I like to hike and I keep a mental checklist of summits I’ve made, and I bike but I don’t even keep track of miles I ride each season.

So anyways, do any of you keep track of your off season activities the way you keep track of skiing/riding?

I keep track of my roller coaster ride count, but that's about it.

When I was more into bike riding, I used to keep track of miles as well as time and average speed. Same was true with running. I don't do either any more with the intensity I used to, so I no longer keep track. The reason I did this is to see how I was improving and what kind of training I was doing.

With skiing I now keep a database, the main reason I started doing this is to see where I like to ski more and then planned accordinginly to get the best deals, with the All For One, that not as necassary anymore, but I still like to keep track. It's kind of my memory, I don't only keep track of day and areas but conditions and special event of the day, i.e. first time I skied with someone, such and such an injury, which skis I skied on(this is useful to know how much any pair have been used)

I document all of my ski days on my web site. Lately, I have taken a preference to measuring seasons with total days, total dollars spent on lift tickets, average cost of a lift ticket, and average cost of a day of skiing (BC & Lift combined). Some people like to measure total vertical, but I think that stat is misleading. Yesterday I skinned Mansfield for one run and it was easily a MUCH better day than some lift serviced afternoons that I got in 20 runs. Vertical does not equal quality, so I do not count vertical.

I have an excel spreadsheet tracking the number of days, where, who I skied with, cost of the tickets, %percentage of All41pass, dollars per day on all41.

In the off season, I'm tracking the NH 4000-footers in my AMC guide and with pin on a map.

Well let's see. No.

I ride my bike quite a bit, and cycling would be the statistician's dream with everything from speed and distance to calories and nutrition. But I'm too busy enjoying the actual activity to record everything about it. I haven't had a cyclometer in a couple years now, and I now much prefer to ride without one. I began riding for myself rather than the numbers and I'm riding farther and faster than I ever did.

I think it's awesome what people like Steve do with the documentation of their exploits, but I can barely remember all the equipment I need just to get up and down the hill, nevermind anything else. I'm just glad someone does so I have local ski porn for the summer time.

So, thanks, Steve.

Distance I can believe, but how do you know your riding faster without bike computer?

Cool :) Have you gone to Six Flags Great Adventure in Jersey? I see you are from MA, so I figure it's more likely you've been to the one in MA, which I haven't been too. But last year they put in a new coaster in NJ called Kingda Ka that has a 400' drop. That's basically the entire ride. Pretty cool, but other longer ones are probably more fun on the whole.

I've been there 5 times, but not since they added Kingda Ka. I'm going down there this summer and I'll be able to ride that in addition to El Toro, their new wooden coaster.

Didn't know about the new wooden one - that must be new this year? I was there last summer and didn't know of it. I think Nitro is my favorite there. Kingda Ka is closed all the time from what I can tell. That fact probably should've made me think twice about even going on it. I was actually there twice last year after not being there for a while. The first day it was closed the entire day. Then I was there for an evening, and it was closed for a while and then it opened and we rushed to it. Maybe you can post a Great Adventure TR after the visit? :)

Speaking of Roller Coasters, I'm assuming that you ridden the Cyclone.

at the end of the season I usaly ask for stats on my pass from a friend at sugarbush. It is interesting because they have the exact date and time of every lift my pass was scanned at all season, and the number of skier days, which on my pass was 20 though there was a day or 2 this fall when they didn't scan, and they were downloading. So that with a few other places I had 25 days.

I have never thought of tracking with a spead sheet, I will have to do that next season, sounds like a pretty sick idea.

I think this summer I will track hours playing tennis etc, biking, hiking etc...

Roller Coasters, Heh I guess you could say that they are the next best thing to skiing. Especialy old clasic woodies.

For skiing, I only track total days out. I don't keep track of anything else about the day and there's no way I could tell you now where I went this winter on which days.

For biking, I have a cyclecomputer that will track avg speed, total miles, etc for each time out. I look at the data but then I just delete it before my next day out. The only cumulative stat that it holds is total miles.

I guesstimate my days... 50+

Skiing and riding is just somehting I do - doesn't need to be tracked.. I see no reason to do so.. I understand how some peope may think tracking their skiing is fun but it seems remote to me...

I'm hiking for some turns tonight... :)

I know my rough distances and occasionally I'll check the clock on my cable box before I leave so I know how much time I'll have before sunset, then if I remember to look when I get back, I will do my rough average speed in my head. I'm riding the same loops and routes I used to in far less time.

Plus all the trees are just a blur.

Every once in a while I do ride this one 14 mile loop as a time trial to gage my fitness but I only did it a couple times last year.

I track my ski trips by posting a TR here for each one. With the search feature, you can search the TR forum for threads started by yourself. It's a great way to relive your ski season during the summer. Pathetic, I know.... ;)

i agree. about the summer thing, not the pathetic thing ;) TR's are great to reflect back on and see where you have been. sometimes documenting can be a drag though, there are definite draw backs. i used to mentally think about what i was going to write in a TR while i was skiing, i put a quick stop to that. you gotta live in the moment. sometimes taking pics and video gets in the way too, i try to balance it out. though i take pics for multiple reasons, i really love trying to get a good shot for my own satisfaction. sharing is nice too and having something to droll at over the summer is great. as far as write ups, i usually just dump out a quick TR on FTO and then go back and clean it up, put in capitals  change grammar, etc. and polish it up. i am trying to develop my site, so that keeps me honest, but i don't let it get in the way. for example, i still haven't posted an earned turns day at burke over about two weeks ago on my site. *shrug* nor have i done a proper post to my site on earned turns at mansfield earlier this week. i update when i have time and nothing else going on in my life. day counting is great, though i learned this season that total days isn't a great indicator of a great season. almost 10 less than last season (and i am still catching up, by the way!) but regardless, so far this season has rocked just as good as last season did, just for different reasons.
