Wachusett. I like their policy that allows you to get a raincheck if you don't like the conditions in the first hour. I wish places in VT did that!

Of course, it's a mob scene most days, especially when the school kids arrive...but if you play it right (so close to Boston) you can have a great day.

Ragged Mountain. They are having difficulties now, but during the 90's they had a fantastic $15 weekday ticket, welcomed brown-baggers, and kept skiing within reach of families with young kids. I will always give them high praise for that, since my kids started there. I thought of them as the heirs to what King Ridge was when I was a kid. I hope their reach doesn't exceed their grasp.

I'll give credit to HPD . . .

Sure he loves Whiteface with an unadulterated zeal that most of us reserve for ummm . . . decent mountains. And it is true that he misspelled the word "due" in the title of this thread. And sure he enjoys getting in meaningless arguments about nothing over the internet . . .But he really believes in himself . . . and that's commendable.

Also, I believe that, on a perfect day, Whiteface is the best mountain in the East too. . . I'll just never admit it if I see HPD in person . . . ;-)

Ahhh… my arch nemesis MC2 is once again trying to bait me into a retort where I dissect his often amusing, but usually wrong observations.

So let me start by…..hey wait a minute, that’s what he wants me to do…well not this time.

I’ll say this about him though, I think he really believes in himself too.

For all the minuses Stratton has, I enjoy some of the tree skiing there, especially the newer stuff off Kidderbrook. I think it's the best in S.Vt.

I'll chime in on Okemo...I constantly give it a hard time for lack of challenege, but I think they do a good job with snowmaking and especially seeding nice hero bumps; I also feel as though they do a good job seperating skiiers by ability on the upper mountain portions, the base runs to the lodge not withstanding...

...also, shouldn't it be "credit where credit is due?"
I think that some people do the same for Sunapee...it may not be the most challenging area, but they also do a good job of snowmaking and grooming.

(I know, the folks who own Okemo also run Sunapee...)

I think so, and I have skiied magic quite a bit. I used to be really high on Magic's trees, but I have been consistently disappointed the last few times I went (to clarify, I think of Twilight Zone and Goniff as trails, not tree skiing). Stratton's elevation makes a difference, I think. Coverage in the trees at Magic is always suspect and/or the snow is not great. I know of one great secret stash there shown to me by a local, but the conditions only allow it to rock once in a while. That Kidderbrook Ravine at Stratton is pretty great, especially after it snows.
