Now I have to decide...Crotched or Sunapee next Friday.

I'd lean towards Crotched since it's closer, but I'd like to have 2 ways down...last time I went early season it was one WROD down.

If they're open day after Thanksgiving and Wa isn't, I'll be there. As a Wa Wa regular, what kind of crowds can you expect at Crotched on opening day in comparison? The only time I've skied there is weekday nights.

I thought it was pretty crowded when I went on the Friday after T-day...lines for the summit quad were up to 5 minutes or so. Lots of pushed around snow on the one way down...fine for more experienced skiers but it made for lots of intermediate carnage.

This could be a good week. Wachusett possible on Monday, Crotched on Friday!

Not sure, but I'll prolly start a new thread with updates as they make more snow. Last nite was nice and cold, but it doesn't look like all of the guns where blaring.

At ski show in Boston today, Crotched staff said opening was for next weekend and hope was for 100% coverage. Not having ever been there, is this even feasible this early (100% coverage) based upon folks' past experiences who've skiied there unlike me? Was hoping to get there Tgiving weekend if there's decent amount of trails open...

Their really isnt that many trails, and they have a very powerfull snowmaking system. I can see it happening.

no question in my mind

now people say that killington has the best snowmaking system in the east because they can convert the most water into snow of any east coast resort. but they have to spead that over a huge area. crotched though has one better, they have one of the highest gallons per acre capacity of any resort in the east. meaning they can cover the whole place like nothing.

I've had this conversation with the GM at Crotched a couple of times. Describing Crotched capicity tends to sound a little like the old SR marketing of White Heat (Longest, steepest, widest, most superlatives of any trail East of...).

It doesn't lend itself to a catchy marketing phrase, but Crotched can you from Zero to 100% faster than anyone.

Without a doubt, easily.

Actually, I'll say 95%. They always have that one section of some odd connecting trail that is claimed to be open, but isn't unless you want to destroy the bottom of your skis on rocks. :p

They started making snow on Friday night. I was actually expecting them to open Monday or Tuesday easy.

Yupyup. I hope the temps go perfect tonight so they can turn the guns on full blast. I can't really tell, but I swear they're not belting out as much snow as they could the last two days. Wind and humidity I'm guessing.

Has Crotched ever gone from nothing to near 100% in less than a week?

I still have hope that they will open next weekend, but I'd guess that they will have the summit lift and maybe two ways down (Meteor and Galaxy) by that time...

Given perfect weather, I believe they could do it. There pumphouse can push as much volume as 7 of these:
