What exactly would you define as a trail pod - I am not sure myself but I assume it is a group of trails with something in common but what - just proximity? End at the same spot? Serviced by the same lift?

I'd say any set of trails that are generally skied by using a specific lift constitutes a trail pod. A trail pod would not be an entire mountain, in the case of Wildcat's HSQ or Cannon's Tram, for example. Trail pods would also not be defined as any sub-set of trails that are serviced and fully skiable in repetitive fashion by a larger lift (i.e. I would not call trails serviced by the Tomcat nor Bobcat at Wildcat trail pods but I would call Zoomer and Cannonball at Cannon trail pods because those lifts are regularly cycled for those trails specifically). Jet at Jay is a perfect example of a trail pod where Bonaventure Quad not as much because that stuff can be skied via cycling the tram or Freezer or combos and not exclusively cycled by many riders.
