The usual 90 minute drive home from Jay yesterday turned into 2 hours and 65 miles of snow squalls and snow packed roads. I've never loved my Blizzaks so much; my truck just cruised through it with no drama. I'll never be caught without snow tires and 4WD in VT.

You can probably find a lightly used set of snows on Craigslist or something. You're really rolling the dice have all seasons in northern NE.

Let’s Not Talk about really beautiful Cars and SUV’s with super nice All Season tires on Vt 108 (Mountain Rd) @ Stowe on Sunday.
I just advised, grab a beer & a seat in the lodge, it’s at least a 2 hour delay. It’s cold and windy, but sure as shit, they go sit in their Cars in drive w/their foot on the brake for hours, just so the guy in front of you can worry about you forgetting your in fucking drive mode….fucking ASSHOLES !
The Shuttle service is working really well, but the elite need to fuck up the works, some really stupid shit all day. Then they lost it on the hills & shut down 108 for hours.

Wow, my alpinezone question has got to 4 pages! I was caught in that snow squall on Sunday driving from Sunapee to Plymouth. Scary…..

And we haven’t decided where to go for Feb vacation yet.

I think he's saying traffic is at a standstill due to the road being shut down. Therefore no reason to be in drive if you're not moving at all (and won't be until the road reopens).
Ugh, if ppl actually do that (sit at standstill for hours with the car in gear and foot on the brake) then we've reached a new (new to me) low!😅
More fodder for the manual-transmission elitists I guess! ( I used to be one of them...)

I have new winter tires and we have about 4” of snow and some sleet and rain in southern ct today. First real slop with them and I noticed I drove pretty aggressively, fortunately I use cruise control a lot for road trips.

How long a drive to Saddleback from Sunday River?
Have the roads going to SB been improved as much as all roads going to SR?

Re going west, you didnt list your exact dates but doing a quick check, I see RT Boston (assuming that is home) to Denver for $253; leave Tue Feb 20, return Sun Feb 25. Very reasonable and they have had a ton of snow in the past 2-3 weeks there. SLC available for a bit more. It will be a zoo at Park City/Vail,. etc. but that's pretty much everywhere that week.

SR to saddleback is about 90 min. sugarloaf closer to 2 hours.

i took 2 > 142 going to Loaf. i took 27>2 going back. its longer mileage but was worth it to be on less remote fucked snow roads. especially once the squalls started.

One cool Rd you should check out is Hurricane MT Rd. It goes from the Red Parker a Pub to Maine. It does get closed when it's too icy. But I think they try and keep it open these days. Much like Tripoli Rd south of Cannon. (Which is all ways closed on Winter.)

It's a great mountain pass and time saver. It feels like a roller coaster at speed...

I’m still looking at some options. we have Epic local so would only ski the week anyway. And yes it would be from Boston. We have done full weeks for the Feb holiday week to both Park City and Heavenly before, though both trips coincided with “bad snow years” for those areas. So as early season out west did not look great I sort of gave up on the flying plan. But now I am thinking about it again. I don’t want to risk meeting Krusty in a ditch in northern Maine anywhere!

Yeah, 142 really goes through the middle of nowhere; 2 and 27 are hair raising enough in bad weather. I've had so many sketchy trips between SR and SL, that last winding stretch between Kingfield and Sugarloaf lasts forever in bad weather. A year or two ago it changed from snow to freezing rain and our car and roof box were entombed in icicles by the end. Needed a few shots to calm down after that experience.

Honestly, Farmington ME isn't a bad place to base yourself, you can hit Saddleback, Sugarloaf, BMOM, and Sunday River relatively easily. They're all on more major routes from Farmington compared to 17/142/26 (through Dixville Notch) that get less traffic. Lots of affordable motels, and it's a fun little college town.

You obviously haven't spent time in Farmington......
