You're just paying your dues. Better get the oldest on skis soon. In two or three years, I can see you getting many days in as you drag the kids along. Might be a few years of cruising, but it's better than nothing and once they learn to ski bumps, look out.

Well lets see;
Living on Long Island..good skiing minimum 3 to 7 hours away.
Wife...not going there but not as into it as me for sure.
This DAMN weather. 2 inches of rain followed by a cold front...by by Catskills. And this seems to be becoming a regular occurence.
Other than that....I would get up at whatever time needed, spend whatever is needed, and I'll drive the whole way there and back. So it ain't me!

i'm in the same boat. distance limits weekday options. can ski only on weekends.
got everyone in the family hooked; pro-everyone like to ski, con-cost mucho $$. 2 days of skiing weekend trip will cost around $1K +/-$3-500 depending on where we are headed. on top of that, week long trips during high peak week costs me.
i am willing to deal with all that, but this damn weather pisses me off....

I'm pretty much always fighting my el cheapo alter ego with skiing and spending money. Other than that, the mountains own me.

Mainly money and two little kids at the moment. Get out once a week at WA which is fun, but doesn't really feed the need. Things should be better in a couple years.

Well, if you eased up on the pelvic thrusts, it might get better.

But they're what really drive you insane.

Lazy and prefer to ski with others rather than ski alone altho i do about 10 days a year skiing alone

My wife skis but since having a surgery due to a skiing accident is LESS enthusiastic , but she will ride with me to teh skia rea on several occasions so that i'm not driving alone

Sorry, not trying to win the combat to compare thread, just tired of making excuses as to why I can't go most times. My friends that I ski with don't know the whole story either. Just easier to vent in cyber space. Didn't mean to bum anyone out. Carry on...

Not what I meant AT ALL!!!! My point was I take this sport for granted as well as how often I can ski. I grew up skiing and for as long as I can remeber have had a pass to go skiing whenever I want to. When I was younger and met people who didn't ski it really took me back bcause I thought everyone did. When I don't do skiing it's simply because I don't want to for whatever reason. I could ski everyday of the week if that was truly what was important to me. Now to my point......it's posts like yours that really (to me) drive home what this sport is all about. IMO, it's about just getting out whenever you can and have fun skiing however you ski. Obviuosly it's a major act for you to get out and ski so I hope you really enoy it. It's not about who's the best skier, bumper, carver, steep-n-deep dude, treeman, and so on...it's about enoying the out fo doors by yourself or with friends. You just helped me remind myself of that:flag:

What do you have to fight to get on skis/board as much as you want? The wife nagging, girlfriend doesn't want to leave that early, not enough money, family commitments, work, not enough time, can’t get out of bed? Keep it real.

I get on skiis as much as I want. I changed my life to do so.

I know that! I knew what you meant. I just didn't want to depress anyone else in the process of explaining how much skiing means to me. The frustrating part to me now is, now that I'm starting to get comfortable and passionate about bumps and trees, the clock is ticking on the number of ski days I have left in my legs. So each missed opportunity, in my mind, is a much bigger deal that I have no control over. By the way, I have a friend that lives in Geneva.

Gas money is the biggest issue, but it's not too bad. Also, it's hard to get up at 7:00 after working until 11 or later the night before when I normally don't get up until well after noon.

Money is a factor, though I get around it. Typically it isn't as I get a pass somewhere, but this year I decided I wanted to ski multiple locations instead of just the River and the Loaf. So, I typically go where I can get a deal. I'll pay full price, but only a couple of times a season if the conditions are fantastic. Next year.....back on the pass program.

Typically just time is my biggest constraint I basically only have weekends available for skiing and I typically work one or two Saturdays as well. Realistically, that leaves me six days a month to make it out. Throw in family obligations and it's more like four or five days available. Poor weather typically takes away one of those. So....if the cosmos are perfectly in line, I could realistically ski 25-30 days in a season. This year it will be more like 15 - 20.

You guys with the antagonistic wives need to figure out a trade-off. We have two small children too and I've got more skiing in since the first was born than I ever have. On days I'm not skiing, I am in full on Daddy mode. If she wants to head out solo and do whatever, she goes; no questions asked. I call it making deposits to the wife account. My ski days/trips are the withdrawals. It's all about balance and compromise.
