So does that mean they can't ski there the rest of the season?

And when's hetero ski week?

I think it's ridiculous.

If a ski area can market to a group then why not?
They are people in a group just like any other group that a ski area "GROUP Sales" department markets to... There are "hetero" groups too...

they just don't seem ridiculous to you like the gay groups.. How about the Jewish singles groups? Or the 911 Orphans group? Or NYPD groups?

They can ski whenever they want... is that ridiculous as well?

Agreed. Business is business and a customer is a customer. Straight or not, if your money has dead presidents on it, feel free to spend it in my store.

Did you ever hear the comedian tell the story about the most dangerous group of drivers? Soccer Moms talking on cell phones, running late, driving large SUVs who are so petite they can barely see over the steering wheel. Now, that is one 'group' I might not be too excited about arriving. I'd probably not want to be in the parking lot that weekend. ;)

I have absolutely nothing against that portion of the population, I just think there are waaay too many special interest group themed days/weeks out there, most having nothing to do with the actual activity itself.

I mean what does being gay have to do with skiing? Does it change the sport somehow?

Would, for instance, I be permitted to attend this gay ski week if I wanted, despite the fact that I'm not gay? Do they have Caucasian week? How about 24 year old, heterosexual, caucasian week?

It just doesn't make sense to me and I personally feel like all these special interest groups/events are a step back from the progress society has already made in regard to discrimination.

The whole argument for a lot of these interests initially was that they didn't want to be viewed as different. Things like this just push the issue in the opposite direction by emphasizing that they are in fact different and need their own week.

Just seems like it's gone a bit too far for me.

Look at it this way- would you rather go to a mountain hosting an Alpine Zone Week, or one that wasn't?

We're a "special interest group" as well.

Of course, some of us are more special than others.

Sure - why not....?

Probably a good demographic to market to...

Excellent demographic to market anything of worth too. I've often said that gay bars are cash cows. Big money spenders, not many fights. Good investment.

I was at Ascutney once when they hosted a Dental conference on the top floor meeting room. I went upstairs to look around after they left. There were very large color posters of dental disease all over the place. Made it very difficult to have lunch afterwards. Now That's special interest!

Your very comment segments them into a group...

And yes - if your straight - you can go... I have gay friends.. They invite me and my girl to go places... I've piggybacked on "Black" ski groups trips before... I went on a trip to :Las Lenas with a Hispanic ski club from Miami... Never once got turned down... Had a great time!

your taking this way too seriously and going to deep into the weeds...
It's like minded people having fun... i don't know where the "bad" is here...
And YES - they are a "fringe" group that not everyone's comfortable with... So thats maybe why this thing appeals to them... Saftey and comfort in numbers...

I just don't get why people have to be like this...

To be honest, one that wasn't. But thats just because I'm not really into those big group events, I'd rather just do my own thing.

The whole issue is that being gay has absolutely nothing to do with skiing, just as being black, white, green, red, transexual, beautiful, ugly, old or young has nothing to do with it.

A skier is a skier.

This is just my opinion, and it's more an opinion on the state of our society and it's direction than anything else. I understand all your points and believe them to be valid arguments, but I still have the same opinion.

yup... A good friend of mine is gay - he and his partner own vineyards... Save to buy nice houses... Just live a great life... insane...

But he's also frugal where it counts... Has taught me a ton about taxes and finance.. Saved me thousands... :) Good dude...

A skier is a skier.

true but humans have a tendency to flock together as groups...

And when you reach a certain level. Skiing is something you do - it's your big love but your so good at it - it's no big deal... And the "it" is... not just skiing.. It's getting gear together, being comfortable driving in snow, having resources lined up to do all this...

But until you reach that point and if you live far from the hills... Groups are a great way to not only go skiing but meet like minded people.. and enjoy the socialness of the sport..

I don't believe that, I think by bringing their sexuality into something that has nothing to do with it segments them into a group.

But by the very nature of their "non standard" sexuality it segments them into a group...

It's more then the fact that they are attracted to people of the same gender...
It's a culture... Weather you recognize it or not... There's gay bars... Gay Political groups(Log Cabin Reps. for instance), gay travel clubs... TV shows... Radio stations...

They's gay and and here to stay... Get used to it and let them spend $$ as a group..
