Anybody been to Holiday Valley this season? Is it worth driving 4 hours for (from Ohio)? Planning to go this weekend-weather. Any help would be greatly appreciated-don't want to waste a trip for crappy boarding

I talked w/ two people here in Ohio that were there just before X-mas and they said the cover was very good. We went to Seven Springs, Pa last week and it was also very nice.

Holiday is well worth the drive. For my money it is the best place, overall within 5 -5 1/2 hours of Columbus. I wish it was only 4 hours for me I'd go more often. You definitely should check it out. They should have plenty of terrain open.

Whatever happened before 12/23 is history, except for the base it creates. ("base" is not always skiable). Here's my take. I interned in Buffalo for two years and would often go to the resorts south of there. Holiday Valley is showing LGR. Consider two other options, Peak and Peak or Kissing Bridge. HV 750', KB-550', PNP-400' - both PNP and KB are reporting packed powder. Chances are good old Lake Erie is blasting them. HV gets the table scraps and must rely more on snowmaking. Of the two, I'd pick PNP for you. You will probably end up with some powder boarding this week, if the weather persists. I think you'd find it a bit too scratchy at HV, I could be very wrong, but that's where I'd place my money. Watch what the weather does and then decide.

The other thing you don't mention is if you have other opportunities to travel forthcoming. That changes everything. I pursue the "get it while you can" philosophy this year, with weather weirdness being what it is...

good luck.
