I see that Plattekill is closed with the exception of the beginner trail.
Killington is open, but a lot is closed due to a poweroutage yesterday.

Looks like I'm taking a break this week, any other reports out there.

I'm curious about Wachusetts. Their snow report says 18 trails today. I'm shocked they came out of yesterdays rain with most of their trails still open. Looks like I'll have to hit it Monday.

the snow is wearing away at wawa fast. and that was on thursday. Some dirt spots and the trails are narrow. the summit trails are a little better.

Wow, that was before the rain yesterday. I wonder how it looks now. Hopefully there is fresh powder Monday. Thanks for the info.

Mt. Snow is hanging tough

Mrs. Euler and I skiied Mt. Snow this morning for a couple hours. While the trail count is way down after last week, the open trails are in amazingly good shape. Sure, it's not hero snow, but the trails were certainly in good enough shape to have a lot of fun on! We commented on the drive home that "snow technology" is really amazing to allow us to have a fun morning of skiing after a week of rain followed by a night of freezing rain. I'll be back tomorrow morning and expect the surface to me great after a full night's blue hats.assault by the snowmakers.

Not good....

Conditions are not necessarily good all over. My ski bud at Stowe took a very bad tumble on Liftline (double black) today and fractured his arm. He's an expert skier; this is his first serious injury skiing. Reports are that the trails are very icy.

Be careful out there, stick with the groomers (and probably not the steeps) unless you are very, very good on your edges. Even many of the groomers are bullet-proof; there is only so much you can do. I'm waiting until there is at least twelve inches (nat or pow) of new stuff before I venture out.

I just scanned trail reports and the smaller areas now are rougly half-open. The larger areas still show majority open, but I would use caution in interpreting those numbers. Just because a trail is open doesn't mean it can be skied well.

I skied Wawa today and it was surprisingly good. All trails except a few connectors were open, snow surface was firm but not icy, and there were only a few bare spots along the sides.

Hey thanks for the report. I just might have to hit it Sunday night as well as Monday. :spread:

Agree 100%! While nothing like last Saturday's great stuff, this saturday post melt down/wet/freeze event had much better conditions at Mount Snow than I was expecting. The groomers took what would have been an absolutely bullet proof/shiny surface and turned it into a loose/frozen granular surface overa firm base. Sure, a nice set of edges helped, but it was definately a decent product that will RAPIDLY improve now that snowmaking temps have returned. The natural trails still have between 2/3rds and 3/4ths coverage, so with a little help from other nature, things will be back to wide open in all likely quite soon.

A neighbor went up to Loon today. Said he got some nice runs in but lots was closed. Loon demonstrated class by offering return vouchers to anyone quitting before 11 am and he took them up on the deal.

I think they do this everyday. I know before I started getting a pass, I used to turn in my ticket almost every other day that I skiied there, usually just on weekends when it was crowded. It's great though, because you end up getting to ski one day from 8-11 completely free. Most of the time you can just walk in there, and without explaination, they'll give you a voucher. I can see why the masses would have taken advantage of this yesterday.

Stuck to the blues

what level trails were you on?

Definitely stuck to the blue groomers Saturday morning. It would have been crazy not to. The thing was, though, the challenge caused by the speed of the hard snow combined with the need to pick a good line around the ice that did exist made these blues as challenging and fun to ski as blacks are on good quality snow. Again - I didn't say the snow was superb, only that it was still fun to ski.

Was at Sundown this morning with my daughter. While we didn't leave Sunnyside, it was easy to see the trails visible from the base had side to side coverage and a relatively deep base. The mountain will be back in great shape after tomorrow.
