I've sometimes wondered how Belleayre got its name and have heard different things. Recently I stumbled upon a satellite photo in Google Maps and saw an area southwest of the ski center called "Belle Ayr." Makes sense that it would have been named for this area. Here's the link if you're interested: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=1+Gel...50,-74.491994&spn=0.056734,0.060253&t=k&hl=en If you zoom out a bit, you'll see the ski area to the upper right. I'm not sure whether this is a village or burg, as I've never been back there. When I get some time I'll head down that way and find out.

Edit: For some reason, the link is showing the ski area rather than the village, so just search for "Belle Ayr NY" and you'll find it.
