I started at 16 at BEAST. I joined ski club to impress a guy, then fell on my ass all the way down the trail. He was impressed.................................. with this other girl who came and had been skiing since she could walk.

Dec 1963 at Royal Mtn, NY. I was 6 using wooden skiis w/ beartrap bindings. The next year I graduated to Fisher wooden skiis and cubco bindings. Even at 6 or 7 you learned how to re-tighten lace up boots. I was too small to ride the T-Bar alone and to short to ride with my Dad so I was stuck riding the rope tow.

4 months 'till ski season!!!
ive been to royal a few times, do you still ski there ?, i know afew people that ski there quite abit. small mt but had a good time when i went.

llambroghinii....I prefer to wait a bit for more that a 12" base. I have skiied over Thanksgiving at Bristol Mtn in western NY and also at Seven Springs, PA. I can't afford new skiis very often and you can only P-tex just so much. On the other hand I will ski as late as possible in the spring since the slopes are deserted and the base is usually still deep.

jimmer...we tried to stop last season on our trip to Jiminy Peak but it was raining. I have not skiied at Royal for more than 30 years. My Dad skiied there recently and he said it was great. Same trails and some new glades. Narrow trails and a NE exposure make for a long season. My family remmebers skiing in the 60's w/ no snowamking well into April every year.

lol, I hear ya, but thats what rock ski's are for. To me, the base doesn't matter as long as i can ski downhill so I don't drive myself crazy, ya feel what I'm saying?:daffy:

The only "rock skiis" I own are antiques. One pair of Olin Mark IV and one pair of Olin Mark VII. The bases are a bit thin but the Mark VII's sure give me all the speed a could ask for. Sure is hard to ski on after 2 years on a nice shapped ski...Salomon Scream.

And yes, 4 months 'til ski season...

My daughter started when she was 6 so this past season was her 4th. Got her into lessons on a whim at Nashoba as I had never skiied and my wife hadn't for over 15 years. She discovered she loved it and took to it real quick. She's been on the race team the past two years.

As a result, the year after she started, I figured I should learn so at 40 years old and never skiied, I took a few lessons at Nashoba and took to it as quick as she did. Her and I now have a blast all winter inbetween her race days and practices...we love bumming around Bretton Woods and Sunday River together.
