...but you did imply that it's harder to move away from the unloading area on a snowboard.

Into my second season boarding and I still have trouble sometimes getting off the lift on the board.

Skiing ettiquette is a great subject..

I feel an article coming on.... any more pet peeves, people?? Keep'em coming... so I can hammer them out by thursday's newsletter..

Do you think this will fit in a TOP 10 style list, (maybe for the DON"Ts) oand then should I spend more time explaining the DO's in an article format?

You want 'em, I got 'em. Actually, I'm trying to blow off stuff that "bothers" me, but until I do. . .

#1 - Snowmobiles on ski trails! And often they are traversing the hill and seem to always want to ride up the line I picked. They're loud, and the fumes smell bad. (If they're to be used for first aid then a light should be on them and lighted only during emergencies.)

#2 -Ropes. There was one news story about a man found dead near a roped trail and it was determined that he attempted to duck the rope. He didn't get low enough. That was his own stupidity, but the poential for an accidental hanging is present.

#3 - Very loud people. You hear them in the lines BSing about some fantasied run they took, the pros they met and the beer they drank. Oh, and they are experts on everything from marketing to avalanche control. Pleeeease!

#4 - Teen-ager packs. Mostly on snowboards because of the easy sit down factor. They hang out at "their" spot on the hill and act insulted if you ski within a few feet. Boarders get the bad rap, but I'm guessing it isreally all about the age. I was a young a$$ myself.

#2 again - Lift stoppage due to a bad load or exit from the lift. This is even worse in the early season on a weekday when there's no excuse for it. Who are these people?

#1 again - Closed trails that should not be closed, and trails that should be skied but are never opened. (Liftline at Jiminy comes to mind.) It seems to me that the areas are limiting skiers either to save the trail for the weekend or due to lack of patrol.

Enough for now. Back to thinking of the good ski days.

Uh-oh..... you're never going to want to go skiing with me then! 8)

interesting comment about the snowmobiles, but in their defense, I'm sure that any resort area employee has been trained to drive them responsibly, and look all around for skiers before entering/traversing trails (i did witness some good driving this past week), and there's usually a good reason for a machine being on a hill, not just emergencies, and they do usually have the headlights on full-time.

Old hippie - acid flashback......?

sompin' like that! LOL!!

I used to have a great time loading the T-bars at Wachusett and Benjamin hill many years ago, I worked at both places.. on the ski school back then, but I loved to load the lifts and flirt with all the "lovelies" on the hill.

I still do.

Lift lines...

Try skiing Europe for a new definition of impolite. At any given time, it seemed like the person directly behind me was intent on having sex with me while encouraging me to do the same to the person ahead.Their lift lines are just one big cluster f##k. Once out of line and on your way, they all return to being gracious folks but, if you are not touching the person ahead of you, they will push forward until contact is made.

Europe is soooo bad for pushing in the lift queues! Not just shoing the people in front forward, but actually just joing the queue half way down by going down the side. I got a brand new pair of skis wrecked a couple of years ago (first day I used them!!!!!!!!!) by someone shoving their pole very hard in to my ski, and I now have a hole about 2 cm across!!!!!!!!!!
