"The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or one" - Mr. Spock

The guy has TB...he knew he had TB...he knew he was putting people in jeopardy when he went out in public...he ignored facts he surely knew, whether someone told him or not, and put people in jeopardy of being infected. The guy is a self serving prick.

Moral means you do things based on what you know to be right or wrong; he knew this was wrong and he did it anyway. The guy is immoral.

And I don't need to be in his shoes before I can say what I would have done. I've put my needs second many times before in my life trying to do the right thing. I'd rather die than purposely put others in jeopardy.

But that's me...maybe I'm just a big idiot.

Good discussion here and good points all around.

SRO: very true about the exercise. Kind of hard to hypothesize.

This brings up the moral question: if you were in his position, knowing what he knew then, what would you have done? Would you have stayed? Flown back anyways? Did he put others at risk for no reason?
TB is serious. I would not wait any longer and would find and pay for the best treatment possible in Europe ASAP.
I would not be able to live with the guilt of knowing I could possibly be putting others in fatal danger. That's just too much, it's not like the flu.

"one man cannot judge the path of another man until he has walked in his moccasins"
Tonto - The Lone Ranger's sidekick

You may not like this, but the "do not judge until you've walked in another man's shoes" excuse is just that...a cop out.

People know right from wrong even if they won't admit it or act like they don't. What this guy did was wrong, period.

Planes fly to and from Europe, right? Pay for your doctor to board a flight and come check you out. That way, if you must be transported, it can be in quarantine so others are protected.

This guy had choices...he decided to say screw it.

You might not like this but that's pretty easy thing to say sitting in front of your computer. Yes, planes do fly to and from Europe. Have your doctor take the flight with you...hell, they won't even do house calls these days.

I think it's obvious that he felt he did wrong based on his apology.

You are more forgiving than I am.

But need I remind you that Kirk, McCoy, Chekov, Sulu, Scotty, and Uhura put the good of the one before the good of the many when they risked their lives and careers to save Spock?

I personally think the guy's a douchebag for putting other peoples' lives at stake. There is no excuse for that, especially when it wasn't necessary. But that just one man's humble opinion :???:

Good looks are just a light switch away....

A right handy tip to know during that moment of visual reality leading to complete confusion and indecision.

along the same line, what I hate is your in a bar with dim lights and you have met, danced, even conversed with a perceived hottie all night and 2AM comes around, the lights are turned on bright and your both left sitting there looking at each other with that same moment of visual reality leading to complete confusion and indecision. :D
