If I could take a test - and I could prove to you without a doubt that my riding style won't scrape snow like most intermediate snowboarders and skiers....

Would you allow me to ride with you at MRG?

no i would not. it has nothing to do with you. snowboards dont belong at mad river. it is not that kind of mountain. we are preserving it and reserving it for skiers only. you have so many other options for places to snowboard. why cant there be a snowboard only place for you. why.

if you want to ski at mad river glen then you should learn to ski and then you can ski at mad river glen. i would show you around. but not on a snowboard. sorry. you can't come out to play at mad river if you bring a snowboard. why dont you try alta.

So it's less about the scraping of snow and more about the fact that you just don't want us around - period - end of story. You should skip over that whole thing next time and save us all some time - you can't rationalize your dislike for snowboarders as well as something physical like scraped snow....

I don't want a snowboard only place because I'm for freedom..

And I ski and tele also.. And have skied and tele'd MRG - So I see it from a unique perspective.

The story I heard was that for the year they did allow riding they were having problems with riders off loading the singlechair. They would have to push off the chair to get clear of the lift and they would set it swinging as it came in to the wheel. The safety kept getting tripped and shutting down the lift. So they said no boards on the single until they could figure out an alternative solution. One morning Betsy was out for some lunch and a snowboarder who didn't understand the reasoning behind the limited access mouthed off to her in a rude way and one bad apple ruined the bunch. Not sure if it's true or not. I can only imagine the lift lines if they allowed riders. The good news is you can carshuttle to the top of the gap so there is no reason why everyone can't check out thaty AWESOME terrrain for themselves.

do not put words in my mouth. those are your words not mine. i have no problem with people who snowboard. you seem to think that i dont want snowboarders around. you are wrong. they just cant snowboard at mad river glen. we do not have the capability to handle them nor do we want to. you will not be able to get off the chair. we have limited snowmaking and limited grooming and snowboards would hurt the terrain. we dont want additonal snowmaking and we dont want additional grooming because that is not what mad river is about.

do not put words in my mouth. your statements do not apply to me. sugarbush is across the street. go there. what is this im for freedom crap. were talking about a ski area not al quaida. get a hold of yourself.

i dont think i like you very much. you jump to conclusions based on nothing and you make accusations on the same premise. you could be nicer. are you always like that.

I've heard that story as well JD, I would expect it would apply to the new single as well, since they aren't changing it's design.

I like the no snowboard policy, and I do think it makes sense...

As a general rule, the majority of snowboarders can't negotiate moguls properly, and when they do it incorrectly, it damages the moguls a lot. (Yes, many skiers can't either, but they cause much less damage.) That doesn't matter to most areas, but moguls are important to MRG.

Many snowboarders scrape a lot of snow off the trails, and MRG has no snowmaking to make that problem unimportant.

Dmc, while I'm sure that you don't cause that type of thing, many boarders do, and it'd be pretty damn hard for them to do a test or the like to check if you are capable or not. Also, you're only really banned from the lifts, if you want to hike up, or get up to the top some other way, as long as you're not doing the above things, people won't mind you on the trails.

I think Alta and Mad River Glen will eventually allow snowboarders..

as long as this cooperative is in control i cant see snowboarders being allowed. the natural terrain is the draw for the ski area. we could not handle snowboarders there and preserve the terrain at the same time. i dont want increased snowmaking and i dont want increased grooming. thats what killington and okemo are for. both are fun ski areas that allow snowboarding.

mad river glen is pure and mad river glen is raw. mad river glen is perfect the way it is. perfect.

Yeah but for now doesn't the co-op vote about 80% against snowmaking and 20% for??? In the future those percentages could change and if there are a few snowless winters..they'll need to add snowmaking to remain open...

i guess the coop will cross that bridge when they come to it. right now everything is as it should be for mad river. you cant make snow in the trees either. something to think about.

the coop is and has been doing a wonderful job and has accomplished more for mad river glen than the big corporations have accomplished for their areas in vermont. especially what used to be asc owned resorts. mad river should stay as it is. that is the coops mission. so far so good.

The big question is..are snowblades allowed at MRG???

Steeze -
- Yes, bladers can go to MRG. They don't push off all the snow like boarders do.
- I find it VERY doubtful that MRG or Alta will allow boards. It's one of the reasons many people go to those places.

- Nobody's mentioned that Deer Valley, Ski's #1 resort in the NA
is also boarder free.

I was just trying to figure out where your were coming from.. You think you can't and woudn't anyways..

What if you could make it happen just for me - just for one day ? And i could prove that I wouldnt hurt the single chair and not scrape snow...
Would you allow me..???!?!?!?!

Skiers never do any of those things???!?!?!
I've been to MRG - I've seen skiers scrape their way down stuff... All the stuff we get blamed for happens at MRG... I've seen it...

Maybe not allowing snowboarders is just a way to limit the amount of people on snow. Less sliders the better the conditions...

ummmmm.......no. i dont understand why you cant understand that. mad river glen is not a place for snowboarders. the mountain is not set up for snowboards. it would hurt the skiing experience. whether you see it that way or not we do.

your attitude would be best served at a place like hunter mountain in upstate new york. i think its exit 21 on the thruway or exit 20. or maybe mountain creek here in new jersey. its in north and west new jersey.

snowboards are not allowed at mad river glen. no i would not make and exception for you. it is not my call to make an exception for you. i am a shareholder in the cooperative. i dont own the place. but if i did there would still be no snowboards. but i dont so its not my decision alone.
