A minute from the Alta exit off the I-15!
Saw the new main base area parking scheme in person last weekend. I think I get the concept behind it (more cars actively dropping off during the morning rush and afternoon ski school pick up times) in the lines and NOT backing traffic up far out into the parking lots and beyond, BUT going to need multiple crossing guards to ensure safe passage from the parking lots to the base area. Will be interesting to see if this ends up being a good idea or not???

Also looks like a couple of new shiny red Pisten Bully's out by mtn ops, a 400 Winch and a 600. Which means it will be the 1st season Mount Snow has had 2 winch cats in its fleet

@drjeff are they still just grooming Chute and Timber on the North Face? Or have they given in and started grooming more of that? Sunbrook?

Depends on the snow/weather conditions as to typically what gets regular grooming on the North Face now. Safe to say that daily you will see between Plummet, Freefall, Chute and Fallen Timbers that 2-3 of them will get fresh corduroy

Ok so a little bit more grooming there than 10 years ago under peak but nothing crazy. That's good!

Probably soon with the temps now. I know there was a watermain break (not a snowmaking line but apparently the line that supplies many of the buldings in the base area) in the Friday/Saturday timeframe that had a bunch of the area between the clocktower building (where tickets sales and rentals are) and the base lodge that wrapped arund the clocktower building and up towards the base of Canyon Quad, that should be fixed by now and from what I have seen on some friends soxial media feeds, the fan guns in/around the base area are pumping out the snow.

I know when I left my condo about dusk on Saturday after skiing up at Okemo earlier in the day, to head home to CT, the snowmakers were on the hill getting the system ready to fire (you could see LOTS of lights of the fanguns already on) when the temp dropped another couple of degrees (it was 32/33 in my car when I left).

I have ZERO doubt in my mind that they won't be open when me and I family will be up there to ski on Black Friday, and probably with a decent trail count as well

Best thing to do, is to look at their "getting here and parking" link of off the explore the resort drop down link on the main web page. There are some paid and some free lots, and that link shows them all in far better detail that words can at first.

We are now in December and there is still no lift service at Carinthia. Long John, Cascade/Canyon and Freefall are the only TTB runs open. Pretty disappointing to see Mt Snow’s massive snowmaking system so underutilized.

Don't think it's as much about them underutilizing it, as it is about them choosing to BURY the trails they're working on so they won't have to go back to them soon. Snowdance, and Gulch especially have had 4 to 6 day runs on them, in good temps (granted those BOTH take a bunch of snow to open as they probably could realistically benefit from a little tighter fan gun spacing in many places), but I would guess that they'll be added to the trail report soon, with Gulch as a pretty good sized park, and Nitro and Ridge have also had a multi day run in good temps on them thus far.

It seems to me that they have been choosing to put an extra day or 2 of snowmaking on what they have opened before droping the rope this year. I am hoping, that if Snowdance doesn't get a rope drop today, that I will see the lights of cats on it when I get to my condo this evening to get some more acres available soon

Seriously?
Complaints about what is open on Dec 1?
Three weeks til Winter
Absolutely serious. They are way behind their traditional rollout even though there have been a number of snowmaking windows. When was the last time they had no lifts running in Carinthia on Dec 1 ? 2011-12 ?

Snowdance is now open both on the trail report and from a social media post of one of my friends on the hill this morning. Also he says that there are a bunch of cats pushing snow out over at Carinthia, so some ropes will likely be dropping there in the near future as well

I concur. I thought the goal was not open first, but to open big, fast, and loud. Great for marketing. This year feels like a whisper not a bang. However they are open and they do a great job.

Ridge and Chute get a rope drop as soon as patrol can assess them tomorrow morning. Cats pushing some big piles of snow on Gulch as I drove into the valley this afternoon. Rumor from friends of mine up here is that it opens as a good sized park with Heavy Metal spinning on Sunday..

No worry about the need for rock skis in my mind, they have chosen to layer it on thick rather than a quick coat of white paint and move on and roll the dice with any warm up in the coming weeks. Right choice? Wrong choice? I guess we'll know by Christmas week which is what their target goal of the system upgrade was, to have the vast majority of the snowmaking terrain open by Christmas Week

Once Ridge and Chute open that's actually a very respectable amount of terrain.
They've covered, and pretty deep, a bunch of capacity hogs thus far.

Seems like they had the temps and opened up more nozzle banks on the fans and upped the settings on the HKD's and went for more water in less guns than less water in more guns the last 10 days or so..

Again, time will tell if they made the right call..

And pretty sure, based on the BIG piles it looks like they're working with on Gulch from the view from route 100 this evening, looks like when it opens soon, it will be magnitudes bigger than anything open to the public now on the East Coast... It's the 15th anniversary season of Carinthia this year, and rumor is they want to make a big statement all season long...
