Yes I know who I am, but I do not think SB is overrated. When you are talking about the best ski area in the NE they are definetely in the conversation without a doubt. Some people, you know who you are, think SB is head and shoulders above every other area, that's where I disagree.

 couldn't have said it better.

Burke, Wildcat and Hunter get my vote.

ha! i am assuming this is facetous as i thought you hadn't skied burke yet?

for my vote, the only mountain that comes to mind is sunday river. in order for an area to be "over rated" it must be rated highly. by definitely, places like okemo and bretton woods can't be over rated because they are not highly rated as being anything but what they are, big busy resorts with lots of cruising and wide open trails and high speed lifts. these places excel at this type of ski area experience and there is no one rating these areas highly in other catagories such as challenge.

sunday river is the only mountain that i can think of that i believe is hyped. loon and waterville valley to a lesser degree. i am not saying these areas don't have some decent skiing, but the over all impression of many skiers are these are two of the best ski areas in new england and that to me is a very highly rated opinion that doesn't stand up to the merit of the competition.

For me, probably Deer Valley. The food in the mountain restaurants was OUTSTANDING but I wasn't that impressed with the skiing, and I expected it to really like it. Certainly not an unpleasent place to ski but didn't live up to the hype and it's so close to really great skiing. In the East I've been most dissapointed in Okemo; crowds were overwhelming, terrain was bland, views were nothing to write home about, and the food we had was less than mediocre.

I for one think Wildcat is vastly overrated. Terrain wasnt anything to brag about, was actually kinda flat. About the only thing I think it had going for it was you could ride any trail you wanted from the summit chair. Not a bad feature but everything else was way overrated.

interestingly enough, i think that is the worst thing about wildcat. i am not sure how wildcat could be over rated, it certainly isn't a sensationalized mountain and the views are certainly not over rated. for terrain, the mountain definitely does not have sustained steeps, just a few short steep sections, but the mountain is fun and has some great terrain to play in. austin will surely pipe in about off trail options to boot, though i haven't had the pleasure.

Yep, I agree about the steepness. It is really consistent but is not really that steep. For a 2,000 ft. range it hard to find something as steep. But for a 500 ft. range it is not steep at all. Me and my dad always say that if you could tilt the mountain 10 degrees more it would be amazing. Thats why for a powder day Cannon is better. Also for off trail stuff I know there is some really steep stuff off Polecat somewhere in the middle, I have never skied it though because I heard it was wicked tight and I didn't have partner.

No, my days of trying to correct the naysayers are over...not gonna fight with Hunter bashers anymore.

Thanks Andyzee...you're right, Hunter is overrated. So you keep on driving the extra 2 hours up to the mighty K, the resort that is everything to everybody. Don't ever stop at Hunter...it sucks.

As much as Wildcat and Burke.

Cool... I'll add that if AndyZ comes up - I'll get him a comp - just to give it another shot...

I generally save any comps I can get for people that have negative feelings towards Hunter... As a way to show them a different side...

I'm sure we can dig one up somewhere when you come up..
