Dan's not only one hell of a skier, he's a great guy. Depending on date, cost and location, a very good chance I'd be interested for myself as well as my wife.

I would be interested depending on a couple of factors: date, price, location. I think that Sugarbush would be ideal for a North clinic, as they have a bunch of good bump runs. I also think that we should be shooting for February-ish so we have the best chance at a lot of trails being open.

As for level, 2 different clinics would definitely be helpful. I did a clinic last winter at Kmart and got very little out of it, as the rest of the group (and we were the advanced group...) was struggling to even keep a line through the bumps.

I might be interested pending the location date/location works. I would not be interested in driving down to CT or NY though. Jim brings up some good points and I think having an aspiring mogul skier class and then another for those wishing to refine their technique is on point.

I'd potentially be interested depending on date and location. My other concern would be skier level. I'm just barely starting to dabble in small bumps and I REALLY SUCK in them. But I'd really like to learn to ski bumps because I think it just makes you a much better all mountain skier and is kind of a requisite skill for doing much off piste stuff.

Get out of my mind!!!!!! I didn't really progress last season as I was skiing with a bum shoulder. A few more months of Physical Therapy should have me ready to get back on track.

Mogul Skiing Clinics

Hi everyone,

Glad to see so much interest out there! Thanks, Greg. And hello Jim and Andyzee. Please do keep your thoughts coming and I'll use them to try to shape a couple of clinics that'll meet your needs and preferences.

Right now, I'm leaning toward January / February weekends (a "south" weekend and a "north" weekend), each with two single-day clinics -- one for beginning bumpers, one for more experienced bumpers looking to hone their technique. Even the beginning bumpers clinics, however, would be for advanced skiers; you really want to have your game going on the groomers before you venture into moguls.

By "single-day clinic," I mean small-group instruction from ~8:30 to ~3:30, with time off for lunch. By "small-group" I mean 6-8 skiers. I'll be watching this thread, so please keep the ideas coming. What do you think of Hunter or Sundown as "south" venues? Any other ideas? I wouldn't mind Sugarbush for a "north" venue; they have so many fantastic bump runs. Do others like SB? Any other ideas for the north venue? And what are your date preferences?

Looking forward to puttin' this thing together! Keep the ideas comin'!

-Dan

South, beginner here as well. I'm open to Sundown or Hunter. If I had to pick one, Sundown would be my choice.

Hunter or Sundown work for me. Sundown being preferable, but Hunter will probably have more options.

South, advanced. Sundown would be choice #1, Hunter #2. I might be down for Sugarbush as well.

Maybe the north if I can get a discounted ticket. Err, not sure what category I would fall into though, probably beginner? I have like 10 days in the bumps and can ski them quite fast but I have no technique what-so-ever. Probably beginner I guess.

I hear you Austin. I was leaning beginner as well. From the videos I've seen you're probably better than me in the bumps FWIW. But since there's no "I can survive in the bumps but my technique is crap" category I guess beginner is the way to go?

I've seen you in the bumps, Roark...Your not too shabby. You might want to reaccess that beginner status.

Wow! 6 to 8 folks per group...great size. I'm interested in that beginner option...along with the other 20 honest people. :>

Knowing my limits...I'm thinking 6 hrs is a LOT of time. I might opt to be there at the start, then take the rest of the day to work that initial dose of info to hone those skills...in and out of the bumps per Dan's book.

Not beginner IMHO. I think if you can cruise through the bumps even if your technique isn't great you're into intermediate/advanced. My idea of beginner is someone's who has no confidence or doesn't have the skills link more than a few turns. And if you can move through the bumps you don't want to be in a class with people who can't.

I suppose should let the expert describe describe who he thinks will fit into the two groups.

I like Wa-Loafer's point. If you can't ski them at all....like me...you'r eeaither a beginner...or a non-bumper.
If you can jit them, but aren't happy with your performance...I'm thinking you don't want to be in my class.

I don't care if I become someone who seeks them out. I just want to be able to manage my way throught them when the inevitable happens. Egad there's nothing more emascualting than taking off your skis and walking down the bumped trail. :<

i would prefer south, especially if its at sundown, cause i know i can make that. But depending upon whats available and how Dan wants to dole out spots, i would do north if that was the only option.

North - Advanced.

The Bush is my vote. My girlfriend would probably be up for it too. She is another borderline one where she gets down them but doesn't have the technique down.

Greg, where at Sundown is there real advanced bump terrain?

You might want to consider a beginner clinic at Sundown and the advanced clinic at Hunter for the Southern dates.
