For the love of god, please tell me I'm not the only person who accidently moved up with the rest of the lift line by accident when the people in front of me where loading. I'm suprised the lift operator didn't take me aside and ask me how much I'd been drinking..

Basically, I was talking to a friend, in the lift line, and the people in front of me moved up. So naturally, I moved up. Suddenly, I noticed 'Oh shit, they moved up to load!'. As I quickly attempted to move backwards, there was just no way I was gonna get out of the way of the chair, so naturally, I sat down, and tried to NOT bowl the poor kids over. Sure enough, one of them was a 15 year old girl, and I swear to god she thought I was trying to kidnap her.

I'm so embarrassed.

that's a new one for me.
Last year, a woman on my chair, seated next to me ms. motormouth- nonstop talk, paid no attention to the task at hand, realized at 0.34 sections to disembark and stepped on all our skis, fell and somehow managed to get dragged under the chair, really messed up her knees.

I nearly did that one year when I was too busy futzing with me gear while riding solo. The liftie ran out shouting at me, I recovered, but I also felt like an idiot.

I think I would have taken a dive to the deck and they probably would have stopped the lift. I almost did that once but I was able to back up in time.

It was the look of dread on the poor girls face that made me feel like the biggest ass. :-( I have NO idea what I was thinking, and no one around me said anything as it was happening..

So have you been to crotched in the last few days? Conditions are awesome..

i have never done that... but i do like to hop off the express lifts early; on some lifts right before it slows down you can hop off, and it give you a little extra boost if your going to a flat trail! i love doing it... but it seems not many people have caught onto it..

I should have last night but I was so tired I went to bed instead, getting old is hell, I am heading out in a little bit for tonight's midnight madness. Have you been there today?

Nope, chilling at the house, after being there 6 hours yesterday having a little TV time. Probrably going to head up tommorow. But can't imagine much changed.

Supposed to be really busy today, and the bar is stocking hard drinks now.

Once a low lift chair pinned my brother's high back down to the snow as I sat a moment before him. This basically stuck his board to the ground and the chair ran him down like a domino. Onto his face. Oh yea, this was our first day at A basin, and our first trip out west to ski. Great start. Then he kept taking off his goggles because he didn't want a goggle tan. He woke up on day 2 snow blind. Rough trip for him.

I was with my friend at Greek Peak while in college. We were waiting for the lift, she wasn't paying attention, went forward...SLOWLY...when the folks in front of us we loading. The lift op yelled at her just in time for the chair to come around the horn and slam into her. She ended up splatting into the lifty shack! It was hillarious (it's ok...she was laughing too). To this day, she regrets chair 121 on lift 5!

I was engrossed in conversation with a buddy @ Cannon and moved in behind the group in front of me. Fortunately I realized it soon enough and hopped over to the side by the liftie. Never had to slow the lift and I just hopped back over for the next chair.

I did that last year, just not paying attention and move forward while i noticed my little sister staying behind, i just said whoops and went off to the side as they slowed the lift and hopped back over after i realized there was no room on a quad for 5people.

I've had that happen to me (i.e., waiting for the chair when the people behind got caught by the chair) a couple times, and yes, I have had a brain cramp and done the same. I can recall once (in my defense, it was day one of a new season a couple years back, so I was out of practice... ), although I might have screwed up other times.

I'm surprised the liftie didn't stop the lift once you accidentally moved up. Some of those guys seem to be pretty asleep at the controls.

I was surprised because the guy at the wheel, so to speak, was watching the entire thing. He didn't even LOOK at me funny.. But thanks, I don't feel as stupid now. :)

I've never done it... But, as a liftie, I can tell you that it happens all the time. I've seen people of all different abilities move up too early, usually while they're chatting with their buddies.

I thought this was going to be about premature jumping off the lift, a little off topic, but I saw a guy once at cannon, on a two foot dump powder day, clap his skis together to kick off snow, well one of them comes off, falls and and almost kills this kid on a snowboard, the kid takes the ski and throws it into the woods, what spurred to guy on the lift i will never know, but he jumps off the lift he is so pissed, runs down the trail screaming at the snowboarder, it was one of the most amazing things i have ever seen to this day,

the only thing better, we head in for bite to eat and hear the guy telling his buddy the story, his best comment, "you really don't realize how fast those lifts go until you jump off"

awesome

Chuck Norris would have skewered the kid with his pole, jumped down, and used his body as a snowboard for the rest of the day.

No one messes with Chuck Norris.

Getting wildly off-topic here, but... I was on the express chair at Cannon a couple years ago, and it stopped right where Spookie emerges to meet up with Gremlin. There's a big rock there on skiers right that a lot of people like to get air off of, and we were right above it. Along comes three racer kids from the Franconia Ski Club team. In quick succession they all sailed off the rock, landed perfectly, kept going, etc. Right behind them was their coach who also jumped the rock, but he yard-saled in a big way. I called down "I DIDN'T SEE NOTHING, COACH !" The look he gave me pretty much correlates exactly with what tcharron wrote above.
