Favorite: New England Loud Powder.

Least favorite: Gaper. Hits too close to home.

We could use some new words. I've posted these elsewhere, but they haven't caught on yet. Need more exposure.

A book called "The Joy of Lex" by Gyles Brandreth (Lex being Lexicography) has a chapter on "Lost Words", words whose past existence can be documented but have disappeared from usage. I would like to revive some of these distinctive words for use in skiing, as follows:

Acclumsid: Numbed, paralyzed, clumsy. From the Old English clumsen, to be stiff, numb. Acclumsid after a 14-minute lift ride, he fell on the unloading ramp.

Adlubescence: Pleasure, delight. The fresh powder was positively adlubescent.

Agruw: To horrify, cause shuddering. It shouldn't get a double diamond unless it agruws.

Beek: To bask in sunshine or before a fire. Beeking is an essential part of spring skiing and apres-ski.

Bellibone: Lovely maiden, pretty lass, an anglicization of the French belle et bonne. The Alps have more than their share of bellibones.

Flap dragon: The sport of catching raisins in bowls of flaming brandy, or drinking the brandy without getting burned, as a tribute to one's mistress. I think flap dragon should be resurrected for apres-ski.
(Raisins?!)

Gwenders: Disagreeable tingling from the cold. It was ten below, but we stayed out until we got the gwenders.

Hoddypeak: Simpleton, blockhead. Watch out for ice, bare spots and hoddypeaks.

Quetch: Moan and twitch in pain, shake. He lay quetching on the edge of the trail for half an hour before the ski patrol found him.

Quop: Throb, palpitate. She skied the mogul run again and again until her thigh muscles quopped.

Spuddle: Assume airs of importance without reason, make trifles seem important. Stratton ski instructors have been known to spuddle.

Ug: Fear, dread. The neo-expert approached the lip of Corbet's Couloir and was suddenly seized with ug.

Wheeple: Ineffectual attempt to whistle loudly. So he stood at the lip of Corbet's Couloir wheepling.

Xenodochial: Hospitable to strangers. We'll never get the car out of this snowbank, so I hope the folks in that house are xenodochial.

Zuche: Tree stump. Look out! Zuches!

Yea, that is right, I forgot all about the infamous "King Marc" maneuver made infamous by AZ's own. This prime slice of skiing lingo is going to replace the sitzmark in due time! Great term! "Way to go, King Marc" or "Nice King Marc!" would be appropriate uses.

I'm "stoked" to ride a "sick" line on an "epic" day with my "bras". "Layout" some "trenches" at "mach 5", "switching" to "fakie" in some nice corn....

Don't like "kuckle dragger"... Could never understand it.. Sure i touch the snow when i ride sometimes.. It's oe of the reasons I board...
