Stolen skis

The thread on losing skis made me think about stolen skis. I had a pair swiped from an inn at Mount Snow years ago. They had a ski lock room for guests where I diligently locked up my skis. The next morning I came down to find my skis gone. Needless to say, I was very upset. The upside is that it forced me to demo another pair of skis which I LOVED and ended up buying.

My daughter had a snowboard stolen at Blue Mountain in PA years ago, too.

Still, only two bad experiences in 30 years. I still never lock my skis up at the mountain, but I only ski during the week when it isn't crowded. I think I'd be more careful if I skied during the weekends or holidays.

Never had any skis stolen, but since I got a new pair I usually split them up in hopes a thief is too lazy to track down the pair (so long as they don't watch me do it...)

LOCK YOUR SKIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It makes for a much better time in the lodge for me.

The longest I am usually in the lodge is to hit the bathrooms. I tend to not lock my skis for the 5 minutes that I will be away.

I had mine taken at Gore....someone didnt feel like renting so they swiped mine. We found them at lunchtime and stole them right back!

I've never had a problem, knock on wood. Probably part of this is that I don't usually have the sexiest equipment: I think my Ride Yukon board is $#!@$#@ awesome, but I don't think it's high on people's lists of boards to steal.

When my wife's Crossmax 8's were new, she locked them up for a while. *Twice* the locks got jammed and she had to get wire cutters from the ski shop to cut them off! Now that the skis are a few years old and have a few dings, she doesn't bother either.

The closest thing that's happened to anyone we know is that a few years ago a friend's poles disappeared from the rack. There was a similar-looking pair of "orphaned" poles a few inches away, so it was probably just a mistake. We weren't sure, though, so she didn't take the other poles.

I watch my skis from inside the lodge. I have my camera phone ready at all times. If and when someone takes my skis I go out and take their picture and post it all over the internet. If I find his name so much the better. When you google their name you will find a picture of them carrying my skis. How thoughtful, carrying my skis without being asked. :wink:

I'm always on watch duty too. I like the addition of the camera phone/digital camera. Isn't technology great!

My friend got his board stolen at Okemo this past season at the MDVC. It was a year old, Burton Dominate with Mission binding. A VERY exspensive setup for snowboarders considering the bindings themselfs cost 170$ ( I have a Pair ) Now he has a less exspensive, but still nice, Clash board and the cheap Burton freestyle bindings. Now we always lock up our boards!
