I miss the old "Mountain Road Motel" at Stowe. I believe it's now called the Mountain Road Resort.

We used to stay there 20 years ago when it was just a room to sleep in. The amenities were a lodge with some evening wine and a fireplace and an outdoor hottub.

I forget what the prices were, but they weren't much.

I stayed at the mountain road resort for two night closing weekend at Stowe and it was great..nice rooms and I only paid $80 per night..and free hors d'oerves wine/beer during happy hour..way nicer than the Town and Country across the street. Mid winter is about $120-$150 a night..not too bad..

With the accuracy of New England forecasts, I think a window works better!

tru-dat..I love staying in hotels...getting take-out and a bunch of beers and just watching endless hours of TV after skiing..no camping for GSS...lol

Since I was in the area, I drove by the Lodge Saturday night. Just before getting there (less than 1/2 mile) I was practically driven off the road by an out of state Escalade :x who ultimately succeeded in pulling into the parking lot a whole 20 seconds ahead of me. I guess the road to the lodge is no longer a place for a practical Corolla :-?. I think the rich jerk factor is going to continue to get worse in this region of VT.
Anyways, the lodge is MASSIVE. It was hard to get a real good look at everything since it was dark, but it is certainly a giant leap (pick your direction) in New England resort development.

No TV though..I can't live without The Weather Channel on a ski trip..

pffft. Anyone who is anyone knows that the best place for Northern VT weather updates in the winter is either the NWS Burlington website or Scott Braaten (aka Powderfreak) on SKIVT-L. Weather Channel is a great place to go for gardening tips and scare stories though.

All you need is a computer and a modem.

Side note: I can't stand the Weather Channel's website. Any actual weather information they might have there is buried below 5 layers of advertising. Same goes for the actual Weather Channel on TV. All it is now is weather porn with a sprinkle (or is that scatter shower?) of occational actual weather. It has turned into the MTV of weather, all pop and no substance. :puke:

I was already driving 10mph over the speed limit (50 in a 40 mph zone). Nobody I know thinks I drive slow. I fact they can barely believe I've only ever gotten 2 speeding tickets in my life.

I think you may have missed the sarcasm in the note.
That said, I have to agree with you. So what did they do with the time they saved? Probably wasted it, but they had to endanger you in the process. Everyone needs to turn off the cell and slow down a bit.

Since the story is from June this statement isn't exactly true anymore.

"With the strength of the euro and strength of the Canadian dollar,"

With the US Dollar soaring in the last two weeks the Canadian dollar worth a high of $1.07 vs the US dollar last summer is now at .80 vs the US dollar currently.

I think it's fucking gross. Everything about it. But Stowe has had no soul for quite some time now. All the banking execs will have alot of time off this winter, they can go and stay their on our tax dollars. Our excessive american lifestyle is unsustainable and is the root of most of the suffering around the world. It is the reason people hate us. I wish it would burn to the fucking ground. The parent company makes me sick, that kind of "ski" experience makes me sick, the clientel make me sick...so, I moved, and I take real pleasure in putting my big ol' tracks right down that Mtn. for free.

Well JD..not everybody can be a dirtbag skibum...some people work stressful jobs in the big city and they like to decompress at posh mountain lodges and eat $40 steaks and get $100 massages after a day skiing down perfectly groomed trails..different strokes for different folks. Stowe is a great mountain..with or without the hotel..
