Yeah, I think I am going to try the Monroe Trail on Camel's Hump saturday and then do Smuggler's Notch on Sunday. I just have never skied at Stowe and don't want to pay $70 bucks looking for secret stashes. My buddy used to live over by Smuggs so he showed me alot of locals spots. I am not a snob, it's just that I don't get out as much as I would like and, basically I don't like skiing in crowds. That's why I invested in an AT set-up.

$70? That's a steal. It's $79 for Sunday-Friday, $84 on Saturday!!!!

I think it's for people who just want to eat at the Cliff House. Skinning up Toll Road may be the best option. Been wanting to do the Bruce and Teardrop myself.
Also on my list...
I'd love to do an up Toll Road, ski Teardrop, up Teardrop, ski Bruce day.

When I was on Teardrop two weeks ago we met a couple (with season's passes) who took the lift up, did two laps on the Teardrop, then were headed back for a few runs on the front side.

I rode the lifts at Stowe at 8:30 before they started checking tickets but that was decades ago. I don't think they still do that.

Ah, so that's what was the "backcountry" in the TR ;)

Two laps on the Teardrop and then some more? Sounds burly I think.

ps: I just bought some tele boots and bindings... now I need skis :)

If folks here get around to setting up a Toll Road-Teardrop-Bruce trip, please PM me. I'd like to get more back/sidecountry experience and don't want to go at it alone. One of my projects next year is to convert one of my skis into my backcountry set-up. All I need are bindings and skins (and maybe touring boots).

You can get into it reasonably cheap. Look on ebay for BCA Alpine Trekkers. I have seen them on there for as little as $50, then you need to invest in climbing skins, doubtfull you can find a cheap deal on those. Anyway thats how I started. Now I have a set of '05 pocket rockets with Naxo NX 21 bindings and BlackDiamond Ascention skins. I use my alpine boots because mainly I do day trips, they work fine for climbing.

I would also be up for that tour. I have a set of those Alpine Trekkers and an extra set of skins I could let you try out, see if you like it before spending the money.

Jumping back a few posts, there are people who take the gondola not for skiing.
Last winter my son and I had gotten off the gondola and after visiting the shop for a moment we came out to watch a women in a wedding gown get out of the Gondola and head into the Cliff House for her reception.
Mind you she is wearing snowmobile boots under the gown and there is a raging snow storm going on on this day in Feb. But it happens

IMO, an alpine setup with the trekkers on top = mad heavy. Sure, you can do it. If you want some AT bindings now there are some clearanced Silvrettas and Naxo02s at EMS:
http://www.ems.com/catalog/subcateg...older_id=2534374302889390&bmUID=1202395086193

I work there, but these are great deals - can't beat $200 for a real AT binding.

Yes, that is a good deal. I never really had a problem with the weight on the alpine trekkers set-up, it's not a bad way to for keeping it cheap. When you get hooked then you spend the money for a real set-up. Either way earning your turns = total bliss.
