So Stowe's site and weather forecast is calling for for 3"-6" of "SNOW" tomorrow(Saturday) night into Sunday. Hoping for the refresh of snow to cover the frozen crud and icy mountain for Sundays riding. Maybe keep the trees and glades in play.

Did the Stowe / Smugglers Notch interconnect both ways today, hoping to post a trip report later but for now here’s a few photos

Robins Run, Smugglers Notch:

Heading over Sterling Pond towards Stowe:

Spruce Line, Stowe:

Near the end of the way back to Smuggs over Snuffy’s trail, you reach Sterling Pond again. On right are my tracks from earlier (heading towards Stowe), at back left is the last part of the trail back to Smugglers Notch (same gap in trees, but opposite direction from earlier in the day):

Cool!

Did you ride lifts at both mountains? How does that work?

Yes, rode the lifts at both mountains, used a VIP pass from my ski club at Smugglers Notch, and my Epic Northeast Value Pass at Stowe. Full trip report coming soon.

Are you Fucking INSANE ???
POSTING-up your “look at me Route” on the internet.
PEOPLE DIE UP THERE, HITTING THE COOL LINES over the Ice Climbing cliffs to your left and/or put Rescue at risk and/or death.
Right off the Bat, “so how do you use both lifts” or something like that…your sending people who don’t know the OUT OF BOUNDS area between Stowe / Smuggs … if you stray from the route (and it’s Very Tempting to do so) you are Cliff’d Out !
I’ve said it many times before and will never stop saying it….pony up with a local to show you, before you solo or worse group it, before you know it. You’ll see tracks, those peeps know those woods, don’t follow them, before you know it, those tracks have taken a hard left or right and if your lucky you Stop.
To “redline” that route is irresponsible and rightfully a criminally punishable offense, even if not in a court of law. WTF ! Saddle up to a bar, shoot the shit and someone will guide you the way. Don’t trust some self-look at-me route on the internet Red Lines !
I know those woods and I forget where I am sometimes, but I’ll bail before I go for the untracked unknown. The Mountains and the Oceans don’t give you two chances.

Its better to have the info than none dude, get off your high horse. People are going to do the shit either way and if they are informed of the correct routes and the danger there is less of a chance for disaster.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Theres not that many secrets left in the Notch. The cats out of the bag with widespread videos and Social Media.

It should be a criminally punishable offense to post a map of where I skied ? Give me a break … This isn’t some secret locals-only backcountry route … the interconnect not too long ago was an officially posted trail (refer to attached Stowe trail map) and the two mountains would sell a combined ticket. The trail in both directions is very obvious and can be clearly seen and followed with Google maps to make sure you aren’t straying off course.

Ya your wrong.
Yes, the trail is flat between the two hills that is for sure. And if the Pond is frozen even flatter…but it is not patrolled, period.
My Point, which is inderstood by most, is sending people with no knowledge of how close the Notch is, with unquestionable enticing lines to invite thee…experienced skier died. It was like many years ago there was a buy-a-lift ticket between the two. Although I agree telling flat-landers how to access both hills is not criminal, without Highlighting the dangers of veering off to those snow filled woods down to Rt 108 is !!!!
And that Danger should be put out loud everytime skiing near the Notch from above is mentioned & most certainly from either side. But you hardcore vets know better than I Not to put out a warning on basically a 20 min cross-country jaunt.

I would hope that anyone entering the backcountry would understand the consequences of straying off course, and would take heed of the warning signs at the backcountry entrances. I’m not sure someone ignoring all that would be stopped by a warning on an Internet forum. But I understand where you’re coming from and I’ll include a warning with some of your thoughts at the top of my trip report. The more information the better, my intent is to share the stoke and help people safely find the correct course.

You’re not harming anyone. The trip reports are fun and informative reads.
It would be a different story if it was step by step instruction to reach something like the falls or the pile, where people have a high chance of injury without a local guiding them through the route. The interconnects are easy terrain if you stay on path and this kind of info enlightens people to the dangers of wandering off the path. If you are at Stowe and the cliffs off the backside of Spruce aren’t an obvious hazard then you are an idiot. Any info that saves S&R time and resources is valuable in my opinion. That has nothing to do with secret stashes or intense lines its general safety info people should know. If you leave resort boundaries its on you to inform yourself of the danger.

Not sure why the cars were backed up to the xcountry center..but I suspect due to the heavy snow...that some fucktard or fucktards couldn't get up the hill..or crashed.
Had to turn around and go to SB.
Epic fail...
Wanted some of that snow!

What's the deal with Lookout Double? It's not listed as a lift on the online report or EpicMix app. It's still on the interactive map but it has a gray X through it and you get redirected when you try and do the liftline forecast for it, with the map for that not showing it at all. Are they mothballing it because of the new six?

That's really weird. I'm 100% certain it was listed on the site a couple hours ago as it was one of the only two lifts listed as closed at the time I looked.
