It should be a criminally punishable offense to post a map of where I skied ? Give me a break … This isn’t some secret locals-only backcountry route … the interconnect not too long ago was an officially posted trail (refer to attached Stowe trail map) and the two mountains would sell a combined ticket. The trail in both directions is very obvious and can be clearly seen and followed with Google maps to make sure you aren’t straying off course.
My father and I did that back in the day, when Smugs was still called Madona, it was an easy trek and easy to find. I enjoy your posts and people like Vter are what makes this website unenjoyable at times. We are all adults and don't need the nanny police to protect us!

I would hope that anyone entering the backcountry would understand the consequences of straying off course, and would take heed of the warning signs at the backcountry entrances. I’m not sure someone ignoring all that would be stopped by a warning on an Internet forum. But I understand where you’re coming from and I’ll include a warning with some of your thoughts at the top of my trip report. The more information the better, my intent is to share the stoke and help people safely find the correct course.
Thank you and very good. I apologize for coming off so harsh, it’s just that anyone crossing that area from the beautiful trails of Big Spruce (ie. Glades) and sees tracks bailing to the left might believe it’s all a go, and as we know, it’s not. I just don’t want to see anyone die in there (again). Im pretty sure the wife and kids of the deceased would also appreciate your warning of dropping in to the Notch. Many avi warnings lately as well. Anyway, sorry to bring down you stoke, it’s a beautiful part of Vermont and with snow like this…very inviting to those who are limited on knowledge but picking up the vibe that drive us. Peace and Enjoy

That's really weird. I'm 100% certain it was listed on the site a couple hours ago as it was one of the only two lifts listed as closed at the time I looked.
Yep, I saw it on my EpicMix app yesterday. When I was on the app today I noticed they were down to 11 lifts and thought huh, weird.

Ahh. Post things on the internet, Don't post things on the iternet. Always the topic of converstaion. People will always debate this.
Myself. I will never post anything on the internet about lines off the trail map. I found everything I ski from my own explorations or friends taking me there. I am a firm believer that the internet has ruined most places that used to be lightly tracked. The very few places that I know that are faily unknown I will never talk about. Even mentioning a basic area will send people in that direction. It might be considered selfish but it saves it for the people that have actually done the work of recon and found a true gemm.

I’m not anti posting things for the most part but alot of the fun to me is exploring and finding stuff for yourself. It’s a great feeling to go looking for the goods and finding them.

It's even better when you return days after a storm and there are only your tracks. I have several places like that. I used to have many places like that. Not any more and some of them, I found on the internet in one blog or another with maps and discriptions. DOAH Untracked is such a sublime thing and is very fleeting. It goes in no time. I hate that places that I really loved to ski are now a race to get there. But that is the way of the world now. People are so inclusive and have to share. Even if it means ruining the experience you just had. C'est la vie.

This isn’t the thread where someone posed the question of “why is skiology even bad? Why does it matter” but this is why. 52000 people grossly over sharing info.

I also reiterate from An old thread that this forum might as well by a small town bar populated by in the know locals. Even the lurkers don’t amount to numbers that would effect anything. Nothing compared to a 52k person Facebook group that gets off on sharing shit constanrlt

Completely agree Kusty. Its one thing to talk about good lines and areas to ski and another to make videos showing exactly how to get there and what its like. I don’t post most of the videos I record but I purposely skip the entrance and exits when recording to avoid people being able to find the location without some heavy lifting. Skiology on the other hand has people happily posting entire runs describing how to get to and from hidden stuff, I don’t agree with that at all. Also Hawk I don’t think its inclusivity, to me it stems from the ego and people wanting others to see all the “cool” stuff they’re hitting.

For me part of the appeal of skiing off the beaten path is the beautiful serenity you can find deep in the untouched woods, with the snow muffling all sounds creating a unique experience for whomever is lucky enough to be there. I don’t need yahoos hooting and hollering to their gopros, I want silence.

I find this surprising. I've been on Skiology for a while now and can honestly say I have not once ever seen a post revealing how to access anything off map, at any area. I certainly would have noticed if there were and I definitely wish it were like you say because trying to cozy up with locals (lol, does that ever actually happen?) just isn't my style. But yeah in my experience there's no gushing fountain of sacred intel. Which... I guess is better for the rest of you lol

I’ve definitely seen multiple post showing “secret” stuff. The dude with the husky and cat suit guy are prime offenders.

For example Skidstain made a whole post about how if the Flyer/Tram is on windhold you can just hike up a bit from Bonnie to access that side of the mountain. If even 50-100 people see that and take his advice that shit is getting tracked out exponentially faster…
