.Our lo of the day probably comes from Middle English lo, a shortened form of loke, in turn from Old English loca, imperative of locian 'to look'.
The phrase has been used in serious literature since at least the 1800s. To cite just one example, "Lo and behold, there was something the matter with the great clock; and a workman on a pair of steps had taken its face off, and was poking instruments into the works...." (Charles Dickens, Dombey and Son).
Lo alone is attested from around 1000. Perhaps its most well-known use, without "behold," is from Alexander Pope's Essay on Criticism (1711), which begins with the familiar "Hope springs eternal in the human breast." The crucial lines are,
"The soul, uneasy, and confined from home
Rests and expatiates in a life to come.
Lo, the poor Indian! whose untutored mind
Sees God in clouds, or hears him in the wind..."

Corrected! But since the club just won't let this thing go away, I may as well stir the pot again. So, Sugarbush won't let people hike for turns because of liability issues, but they are OK with people skiing woods at their own risk with 10 inches of base as long as the enter and exit the woods off of open trails.....
Honestly, which is more dangerous, letting people ski woods that is "open" by their trail policy with no where near enough base by any reasonable standards, or letting people ski open grassy fields with the same amount of cover.
Can't wait to hear the justification for this one..

Lo..I just looked at your avatar on the MRV board. Wow, you're pretty old to be skiing aren't you?
I have no idea, but if the Mountain Ops people at Sugarbush can't answer your question, maybe the good folks over at Wildcat can.....

Ah...more uncoolness. 146 days huh....all at sugarbush? God, that's sounds so boring I almost just fell asleep thinking about it. Single huh? Not suprised. BTW, I am impressed with the Sugarbush loyalty, I haven't seen such blind adoration since the Republican National convention.
As they say, this thread delivers!!!
Only thing missing really is some more Killington speak
