Bummer. I've never been, but I always hate to hear about a place closing up shop...

I know a person who lives in a town nearby. Hope this closing doesn't depress the local economy.

Huh? Source? Is this from the same source that told me that Black Mtn (NH) was closing this season? By the way....it is not.

Hmmm....judging from the events listed and other info on the website seems to indicate that they are opening...

unfortunately the website hasnt been updated since mid november, but i still doubt the validity of this claim

tenney was on my list of places to hit this year, price is a good value for the vertical

It's true -- it was on WMUR last night, complete with an interview. Link to a different story on WCAX is below. The operations manager (Joel Bourassa) seemed a bit upset in the TV interview; said it was the owners' decision, but he insists that it was done only for this season so that improvements can be undertaken sooner rather than later.

I feel worst for the ten schools that have already paid to have their ski programs there.

Just saw it on NECN too...allegedly so they won't "interfere with the skiers" and get it done quicker. Why weren't they working on it all summer as soon as last season ended? Duh!

Now you have all those events, NHARA races, etc. scheduled that these organizers have to scramble to find alternative locations. I'd be royally pissed if I were them.

BTW, NECN in the same period had a nice story on Sugarbush's new base area, etc...it looks great. Never been there but will near end of Christmas week. Can't wait!

They read a statement from the ski club folks on WMUR last night. They were obviously NOT happy. I feel really badly for them, too.

And yeah, I'm skeptical.

I offered similar criticism on the NELSAP room and was lambasted. Truth is that this illustrates how, like the Ginn Company to some extent, this 'American Plaza Company' has no idea how to run a ski area. Once they are closed for a season, it is hard to get momentum and interest back, as well as the cost of maintenance for a closed ski area. Tenney was closed in like 2000 or so....

Tenney Mountain ski area closes

PLYMOUTH, N.H. The Tenney Mountain ski area in Plymouth (New Hampshire) is closing this winter to give itself more time to expand the resort.
Operations Manager Joel Bourassa says it was a decision by the ski area's new owners, All-American Plazas, which bought Tenney Mountain in February.

Bourassa said the new owners want to move forward this winter with their expansion plans without being disturbed by the day-to-day operations of the ski resort.

The ski area originally was to open on December 22nd. Plans now are to reopen next season. A small number of employees will be kept on in the meantime.

Bourassa said about 180 season pass holders will get refunds. He also said the Loon and Ragged mountain ski areas are offering passholders deals for their season passes.

American Plaza obviously knows little about running ski areas and building skier base:smash: --

Who are they run by? Curley Larry and Moe?

Although they are talking about next season, history has shown that when a company that owns the resort has little ski resort experience things can easily go from bad to worse.

This is probably crazy but since the company basically owns a slew of truck stops and convenience stores would building one on 3A be worth the investment? Wing Dings and a Coke, anyone?....lol
