OK, need your input and advice for a home mtn(s) next season based on the following criteriae:

  • Close to Upper Valley.
Reasonable Season Pass rate for Grad student.
    Long season.
Good variety of terrain and snowmaking/grooming.
    Good service and friendly folks.
    Best value.

Most likely my pass will be a xmas gift from the folks, but I wouldn't mind shelling out some $$ for a second one

Remember...not much free time, so I want the best value and NO blackouts.

Ms. Trailboss will most likely get a discount at Dartmouth Ski Way....which is quite close to where we'll be. I have never been there. I'm also throwing around a night pass at Whaleback if it reopens or even Storrs Hill in Lebanon. (I'd help out there if I have any time  ).

Home is Burke and a couple years ago I found that on break I was there EVERYDAY making the $199 student pass a great value. As for the main mtn, it is like 70 miles from where we'll be living, so that may be a bit too far of a drive on a regular basis

Your ideas? Pointers?

i picked burke/jay, because they are the best mountains with the best snow also a good deal... 70 miles come on thats nothing when your from mass. Or if you getting 2 passes on for a local area when u dont have much time and then the burke/jay for days off

I'm saying AMC. You can't beat the bang for the buck. I'm a big fan of Mount Snow and your getting 4 more resorts on top of that! Don't forget S.L's is "the only lift serviced above treeline skiing in the east."

catmount and butternut

catamouint and butternut passes are an amazing deal at 199 and they also get you discounts at other mountians. Catamount and butternut passes are independent of on another but give discount to each other.[/i]

Ya know I'm going to vote for the Bush. Not sure about the grad student being able to get the student pass, but if so... I'LL HATE YOU!!!!

It's not ASC... and that's a good thing!

A day-ticket is always easy at ASC mtns, and if you're thinking about a Sugarloaf or SundayRiver trip...given the drive, anything short of 2 continuous days skiing on the spur of the moment will be pretty wacko on the brain anyways. Bigbog's $.02 would be...go with whatever fits in nicely...Time-wise. Forget any difference in pricing. In the long run...it's petty in comparison to knowing you can get somewhere to get first-tracks....

if you are a full time grad student you qualify for the collage pass at ASC and probably most if not all of the other areas. It's hard to beat the value you get with the ASC pass. Also with your location it's the closest major area. If you were only going to ski midweek then i would say MRG but with the lack of crowds at Pico you can't go wrong with the ASC pass.

Given this info, I'd stick with my initial vote for Sugarbush. Do you get any type of break at MRG with a SB pass?

No...MRG passholders at one time could ski for half-price at SB during pre-season and late season days.

FWIW, the MRG student pass is $199. I'd pick up that one and the SB pass. After 10 days, it'll all be gravy. How far is the MRV from where you're living?

Quite a ways...I'm also trying to figure out what Ms. TB will want to do...she's not a fan of MRG type terrain quite yet.

My leaning at this point to be honest was the ASC Student Deal (from the parents for Xmas) and a Burke pass to be used every now and then. Ascutney runs a great deal...but there are no fans in here it appears.

Sugarbush is one of my favs...but it's quite a hike from WRJ area in comparison to the Killington/Pico combo.

I have several months to plan this  have to get a place first and some other things settled. You all can see where my priorities are
