Sometimes I'm forced to ski faster......but not necessarily differently. If I'm meeting up with someone new it's usually someone from the discussion boards. Case in point....meeting tjf67 this past weekend at Whiteface. When a guy who is lucky to get 10 days a year (me!) skis with someone who gets in 50 or 100....well, they are gonna kick my butt. Not technique necessarily, but speed and endurance. So, when we hit lower Mac on Saturday I was forced to motor through with one (or two) less stop than I'd take if I were on my own. My line through the bumps, my technique, risks on trail (i.e. trees, hucks), etc. are no different, but I do try and keep pace with the big dogs, which forces me to push a little harder. As Greg said, nobody wants to look bad in front of the boys (and girls).

i wonder if anyone is gonna get all amped up trying to beat the one and only 2knees and end up hurting themselves....... :flame: :smash:

Eh, probably not. I mean, so long as they realize that you're going to fall two bumps before the finish.

I just try not to look like an idiot where/whom ever I'm skiing with. Albeit I give er a little more gas when skiin in a group. Whenever I hook up w/ HPD at the face I'll be sure and have a big breakfast that day.

I'm 99.9% positive we had a thread similar to this but i couldnt find it.

anyway, do you find yourself skiing more aggresively or in any way differently when skiing with new people? trying to prove yourself, for lack of a better term.

myself, i have to kind of say no. although i probably tend to take more chances then when i ski alone but that is more of a self preservation kind of thing. I'm not likely to ski trees or huck anything if someone isnt there to immediately report a cadaver in the woods.

Funny you should bring this up now. Normally I would answer this yes, no doubt. However, this past weekend I skied with my daughter's boyfriend for the first time (nice kid). I would have thought I would have tried to bury him, but I never really had the inclination to do so. He rides and is very good, but for some reason I didn't feel the least bit competitive at any time. It was just nice seeing my daughter so happy. I think I’m mellowing in my old age.

You won't need a big breakfast, just be ready for some big beers after. When you coming over anyways?

I ski trees alone, yeah
With nobody else

You know when I ski trees alone
I prefer to be by myself

Every morning just before breakfast
I don't want no coffee or tea
Just me and good buddy Weyerhaeuser
That's all I ever need
'Cause I ski trees alone, yeah
With nobody else

I ski slower in groups so I can ski in a group as opposed to flying ahead..I think I ski the best alone or with one other person..in a large group I am watching other people ski and not focusing on my own as much..I'm a bad multi-tasker..

Yes and No

No because I've got nothing to prove skiing wise to anyone, but myself these days. There's no substitute for fitness and skiing A LOT. Given my life circumstances and only having the ability to ski 20ish days a season and only work out so much, there's a limit to how well I can expect to ski. I just want to do the best I can with what kind of ski life I have to work with, but I know if I or anyone for that matter got out there 50+ days, I could ski a lot better.

Yes because skiing with great skiers like the day I got to ski with you and steveo makes me push myself more. Not because I wanted to impress either of you though, just that going after it is contagious amongst equal minded people. It's not a whip your dick out HIghwaystar kind of stance, if that makes any sense.

Requisite comment about how awesome I am and how nobody is really on my level, so I don't need to "step it up" in any way . . . people will just recognize my greatness and marvel at its majesty.
