Yeah, I did not get a chance to ask how long he had been living there. To me, green plate = local.
It happens. I had a situation over the summer where a friend was riding his bike and got a flat on route 100 in Warren. He didnt have his repair kit so I drove to bring him a new tube and pulled onto a driveway adjacent to the highway. There was no shoulder there and the house was set back quite a ways. I wasnt there 2 minutes when the homeowner came out and told us in no uncertain terms to get off his driveway. I was like, sorry but It'll just be a few minutes to change the tube and there's no place else to do it. He said if we werent gone in 5 minutes he'd call the police. I couldnt believe what an asshole he was.

I usually stay out of these discussions, but since this guy's house is adjacent to a highway I'm guessing he has more than his share of drivers who stop on or near his driveway. I'll also guess that more than a few (not you) act like assholes without him yelling at them to get off his property. Maybe he's just fed up with that reality, not you in particular.

Another reason I'll never live near a major throughfare.

Leadership's address at the Community Day/Oktoberfest was not promising timeline for HG. Also see lots of chairs without grips and off the lines. Will be a busy month or two...

From my distant POV it looks a little behind but not much. It could be worse—like the lift at Big Sky last week.

I may have run into VTer or someone like him today.
I was in Waitsfield with my wife and our dog. We were walking down 100 just past the farmers market and our dog has to do his business,… no big deal, this is what dogs do and of course I am prepared with baggies waiting. While I am standing there, a guy in an SUV with green plates drives by with his window rolled down and yells out “pick the shit up you mother fucker”.

I’m a home owner and been coming here for over 30 years,…. Never had something like that type of run in with a local. Not sure what the deal is and why all the hate/anger. Left a real bad taste in my mouth. I guess I should just chalk it up to the fact there are assholes everywhere. I told the story to another local and she just shook her head with embarrassment.
I chalk this stuff up to there's assholes everywhere. I had a run in with a woman in Paris (we were visiting my kid who was studying abroad) in a cafe. She was drinking coffee alone and writing in a journal. She had her jacket on a second chair, bags on a third chair, and her computer on a fourth chair. In this tiny cafe, that left nowhere for us to sit. As I was uttering (in French) the first syllable of excuse me, she went on a three minute tirade calling me an ugly fucking american. I was mortified and upset. I've been to France a number of times and I'm aware of the stereotype calling the French rude. But I hadn't experienced it personally. In the moment, I figured that I had found out that the stereotype was true. But upon reflection, I'm guessing she was either mentally ill or just an asshole and there's plenty of those types no matter where you go.

Sorry you had to deal with that behavior, especially in a place that we both (clearly) feel should be free of that kind of stuff.

I found this article over on the Valley Reporter...

The 2025 off season lift replacement appears to be... wait for it...

"Sugarbush is also planning to replace the current Tommy’s Toy rope tow with a new surface lift next spring, to be ready for the 2025/26 winter season."

That’s funny because 1/2 the second home/ condo owners I know have green plates. Mainly for insurance premium reduction but also for street cred I think.

I literally know ZERO second home owners (ie people that don’t live in VT full time) that registered their cars in VT. Regardless, there are assholes everywhere, doesn’t matter what color your plate is.

There has always been some level of hostility and resentment towards tourists in the Valley. The smart locals know that it is a tourist driven economy and will deal with it and work around the crowds at the market, etc. But everyone does not like it when it gets crowded on the holiday weekends and that is when the DB's really come out. I mean there is a notes from the Valley blog thing in the paper that always complains about the tourists and being overrun by their urban assault vehicles.

There's plenty of local assholes roaming around. It's probably the same green platers who are tossing Twisted Tea cans all over the road.

It doesn't justify the shitty attitudes, but everyone seems to be extra sensitive to tourists' behavior during peak vacation times. That said, I find tourists that visit MRV much more courteous and chill than the folks that visit Stowe or Woodstock.

Local, transplant, what state you are from, age, race, religion, it does not matter. It is apparent to me that there is a total disonnect with a larger and larger portion of Americans with just being a decent person. Manners, patience, politeness, edicate, decency and compassion are in very short supply. It has recently become exceptable behavior to put down, rant and generally belittle anybody that does not conform to your opinion. It appears that people are of the opinoin that thier lot in life sucks and someone else is to blame. I personally do not subsribe to this point of view. The truest of american ideal is debate and discourse with the final outcome of compromise. I think this is actually now lost and with that is the loss of the experiment called democracy. I guess this is just how I am felling lately.

I actually know several. They did it so they could get the discount at UVM for thier kids. Full time does not mean they live in the state 365 in VT.

I could not agree more Hawk!

I know I may have come off like an A-hole in the past (I'm really not :D) You seem like a decent guy, maybe one of these days we can make some turns together!

I was at the get together this weekend. As reported they are saying they are 2 weeks behind on the HG lift. The proposed schedule now is to get HG running for around Thanksgiving which is when they usually get it running after they open Gatehouse and Valley House. No Northridge for probably 2 years at least. They have not received final approval for the project. I am not sure if they meant the state or Altera. So they are renovating the existing lift and we get Tommy's Toy instead. The employee housing hit a snag with approvals so that is also on hold and they are looking at other options. They spent a ton of money upgrading the shark and purchasing and upgrading paradise market.

I would say it's Alterra, Act 250 approval to replace a lift in kind (same profile, same capacity, etc) would occur within a few months, not years.

It would make sense to reuse at least the towers for North Ridge, the concrete and steel should have plenty of life left in them. It's the terminals that typically are the source of frustration.

Wow, just wow on Northridge. They are spending foolish money on unnecessary lifts at Steamboat and Deer Valley IMHO and yet Northridge is in bad need of replacement. I know if I were a SB skier that I would not be happy.
