Anyone else have workout routines? I mostly find myself sitting in the easy chair dreaming up ways that I should be getting in shape and/or watching ski porn. Does that count?

Not me. I have a very high natural energy level. I usually keep moving just by staying busy around the house and luckily don't need to try to squeeze in an exercise routine. I probably could use some better cardio conditioning for ski season and of course I get sore after the first few outings, but I'm usually able to ski at the pace I enjoy most of the season without needing to prepare for it. That will likely change as I age.

I was the same way until my mid-30's...now in mid-40's it's stay in good cardio conditioning or suffer...and suffering sucks... :(

I've been road biking all summer. Not nearly as much as I've wanted to though... anywhere between 50-150 miles/week. Some weeks I've been up to 250 mi but not often.

Even harder now that the days are shorter. Used to be able to ride from the time I got home at 4 until 8:30 sometimes. Now it's more like 6:30-7.

Well, I've changed my routes to all hills all the time to get amped up for skiing. Also been doing pushups, leg lifts and other core strengtheners...

I haven't felt the need to do it yet for skiing specifically, but I like when I'm in shape (as do my infrequent girlfriends) and I feel more energized and productive in general at work and at home when I'm exercising.

I know mountain biking is a better off season sport for skiing, but I don't have a lot of people to go with and I'm not as comfortable riding alone out in the woods as I once was... even though I've never had *one of those crashes* I begin to think what would happen if I did.

At least on the road you have the occasional passer by and traffic (even if some of them purposely aim for the bikers). Plus I've really rediscovered road biking with the purchase of a real road bike.

I do martial arts, but I only get to 1 - 2 workouts a week so I'm not sure how much it helps...

The biggest problem I have is that, since I don't go as much as I like, I tend to work hard when I'm in class -- and I usually pay for it a few days later.

You don't happen to be able to get discounts on hammer gel do you?

Meh, couldn't hurt to ask... :dunce:

Never heard of the stuff so I did a Google search...

As it turns out, I'm not into endurance supplements...I get enough boost off of the large quantities of coffee I drink each day. 8)

Ran three miles yesterday

Did three sets of sprints today between hoops @ lunch. This Rugby freak I work with is a slave driver! We did three sets of three 100 yd dashes @ 20 seconds ea with a 40 sec return jog....played a game of hoops in between each set. The final set...he was feeling good so we went up to 5 reps. More correctly, HE went to 5 reps, I did about 4-1/2 *cough* *wheeze*

I'll be ready!

Nice, time to get those legs alive. What do you do for work?

I'll be out for a 35 mile ride after work today *looks at clock* with around about 2000' vertical worth of climbing.

Will you be up at Wa regularly this winter? I've got my season pass ready to go... I'll be up most weekdays by 4:30, hopefully on the slopes no later than 4:45. It's about an hour from where I work.

What town do you live in anyway?

Douglas, MA. I'm on the lift in about an hour.

I will get up to Wa sporadically. I can't get a set schedule...too much going on.

I break away for an occaisional AM rip. Otherwise, depending on daughter's homework help requirements...I can get out on the occaisional weeknight. Weekend evenings are normal.

There will be plenty of opportunities. Don't you worry.

re: work....I errahhhh...work for...errrr...ahhh....it's a military thing.

I run 3 miles 2 days a week and play 2 30 minute indoor soccer games for my company league. Indoor soccer is an amazing workout - no outs, so the game is non-stop for 30 minutes, sprinting up and down the field.

Starting mid October I will stop playing soccer, because I don't want to get hurt before ski season. I will continue to run 3 miles twice a week and work out hard on the eliptical 2 times a week. I also start doing a bunch of situps and lower back excercises along with squats and such.

I saw Picaboo Street training in a hotel Gym one day - she was squating what looked like ~200lbs, doing 30 rep sets for hours. Total animal. This was during her last year with the US Ski team.

Went sailing yesterday.

If anyone sails we were racing 420's and JY's. I was in a 420 and it was a lot of fun.

Hiking way out is a real good ab workout too. All in all a real good day, though the winds were a bit shifty.

Flew the spinnaker for the first time ever on a 420. It was interesting but also a lot of fun. Can't wait to go again. Thighs are a bit sore too. All in all dinghy sailing is a great core workout for skiing. Also good for the mental sharpness.

I just rode in the Granite State Wheelman "Seacoast-Tri-State Century" this weekend with the course weaving through MA-NH-ME along Routes 1, 1A & 1B as well as a few backroads, mostly along the coastal beaches....

The 102-mile course was not much of a challenge in regards to climbs and descents but the ocean wind was brutal...the weather was great and the views at the Nubble Light House and Fort McCray Park were splendid...

I look forward to it next year...how about you?

Going out road riding with some guys from work today. Wonder how I'll fair against them.

Of course, no matter what, I can't win. They all think I should out ride them with ease because I'm much younger. I keep explaining to them I'm not physically gifted, I just ride a lot. If I do out ride them, I'm just showing off....

Bitter old farts.
