table hops
IMHO, you need to incorporate some explosive movements that develop leg strength, endurance, and balance. Strength exercises and endurance exercises, on their own, won't do it.
Last year I started working picnic table hops into my shorter runs, and I noticed a huge difference. Find a picnic table in a park, jump to the bench with both feet and then immediately jump up to the top of the table. Hop back down, and repeat. I started with three sets of ten reps and gradually increased from mid-October through the end of November and the beginning of ski season. I was fortunate enough to live in a moderate climate next to a huge park with picnic tables scattered throughout, but a similar exercise should work in most areas...
I routinely go to the gym 5+ days a week. As far as ski exercises go, the only thing I find that will really help me out is clean and press Anyone know an exercise to help minimize the burning you feel in your legs when you first start doing moguls at the beginning of the season? Greg?
