I was just browsing through the forums from that fateful day of january the 6th. (shudders). looking at all the comments about how ski season was already half over and that winter might disappear altogether. Im sure you would agree that the 2006-2007 ski season was a year when mother nature held old man winter hostage until mid febuary.

Edit: Has there ever been a season that has been well below the typical average snowfall in regards to temperature and snowfall?

My question to you is has there ever been a season worse than the 2006-2007 season?
I think you should be banned from this forum.

06-07? That was a great season. Rough December and January. Sensational October and November, February feature the infamous Valentine's Day Blizzard, and April was through the freaking roof. I rate 06-07 very high and very much above average if inconsistent.

My girlfriend still loves talking about that storm! The day after it hit Cannon was a fun fun place to be!

Great season. I would argue that it was only "bad" until MLK day. Then it got cold, at least.

06-07 was a pretty average year...

Northern NH had ridiculous amounts of snow that spring. I was able to ski to my car on May 13th on Mt. Washington. That does not happen often.

I would like to point out that that last april storm turned to rain, but still......I had no complaints come the end of March...

Not in NH or Maine. Wildcat got 3 ft. with no rain, and Sugarloaf got 4 ft. That storm was ridiculous.

your crazy. i remember watching a friend go off a cliff near the chin and basically being stuck up to his chin. granted most people had given up by the time the vday happened but it was a friggin unreal season after that point. we got so much snow in such a short period of time that slides where something you had to worrie about event in the woods. there was almost 5 feet of snow on top of a funky crust layer.

I have it on good authority that 50% of all years are average or worse.

In a word, the answer to your question is "Yes. There have been years that were well below average."

Here's an interface into the historical data of the Mount Mansfield snow stake.

http://www.uvm.edu/skivt-l/?Page=./mansel.php3&dir=.

Select the 1979 box (the 1979-1980 winter) if you want to see an example of a bad year. Select the 2000 box (2000-2001 winter) if you want to see a stellar winter.

When you click on 2006, you'll see a very slow start and an awesome finish.

wtf are you talking about?

there's been no fewer than four responses to your question that illustrate winters that have been far below average
