...or boarding

The speed.

Being outdoors.

Having an outdoor activity to do during the winter.

An excuse for my wife and I take a day trip away nearly every weekend from November to April.

Crisp cold air.

The first ride up the chair in the AM (Can't this thing go faster?)

Getting excited like a little kid on Christmas when it snows.

The freedom.
Camraderie.
Thrill of speed.
Staying young.
Looking back at the run you just nailed and trying to find your line.
Apres.
That split second feeling after you take off your boot.
Being outdoors.
Dancing with the mountain....

this could go on for a while.

that feeling when you're driving up the access road and there's snow falling and you can get glimpes of the trails through the trees and you can't wait to get to the lot and boot up and start skiing.

-finding new stashes
-skiing new places
-the quiet feeling of "big pow days"
-the variety of conditions I face as an eastern skier
-spring days where nothing is groomed and the corn snow lasts all day if you work the mountain right
-skiing unopened mountains (early or late season) with fresh snow on them. No rules, no lifts, no rushing around for crazy amounts of vertical. Just quality turns with some friends.

Being outdoors,
Skiing at places like Cannon and Loon where I've skied since I was ten,
Sharing the time with my girlfriend,
Speed speed speed,
Doing something that the majority of our fellow citizens don't do,
Challenging myself,
When the snow is just right and you just nail that line through the trees,
Counting down to when the guns will turn on or/and the first storm rolls in,
Living within minutes of the lifts and trails to earn my turns,
The people I have met skiing over the years,
People I have met over the years who buy drinks afterwards,
Working with people who also serve the drinks afterwards who don't charge me,
I'm liking skiing more and more!

I love the whole concept of skiing, but 2 things to me really standout above and beyond in my mind

1) Watching the joy on my kids faces as they're skiing

2) The times when I find myself completely alone on the mountain

The fact that I'm sitting here and haven't skied since March, but I can still feel the motion and movement in my muscles. Damn, where's that ski jones thread . . .
