Which mountain is gonna have the best deal this weekend in terms of trails per dollar? (or dollars per trail) I'm not a big fan of mountains that charge full price for the 2 runs they have open. I want to know where I'll get the most bang for my buck this weekend. I know that it is a fuzzy calculation because I probably would try to stay only on advanced terrain but I'd like to see the comparisons between different resorts.

It's really not hard to figure out but I'm on turkey break right now so no math allowed.

Did that make sense?

Good point. My math skills tell me that those two things are key for figuring this out. You guys think Killington is gonna charge full price?

No way, I know that if they had opened a couple of weeks ago, the charge was going to be $41. I doubt if they would stray far from that figure.

At $35 for a full day and $30 for a 4 hour pass, I think Jiminy is actually a good value for this weekend. With the 5 minute lift ride on the six pack, and top to bottom skiing (~1,100 vertical feet), you should be able to get a fare amount of skiing in.

Of course you realize this opens up the whole "what is a trail" debate. Top to bottom or some 100ft crossover?

Most people who have even thought about skiing this weekend probably already know to expect a single WROD. In Jiminy's case they will have two variations at the top (North Glade or Lower Glade). Looks like Killington will offer a fair amount of terrain considering the window they had to work with. You're right though - "Trails per dollar" can be misleading. I still think mileage is the most accurate representation about the amount of skiable terrain open. Another thing to consider is how many runs (i.e. how much vertical) can you get in. I think Jiminy is going to be hard to beat there.

From what i've looked at, Mt Snow is going to have the best in terms of challenge. Chute is steeper and longer then anything open within driving distance for me. Only problem is whether it'll still be there for next week when i can finally get out. At this point, from the forecasts i've been looking at, i have a hard time believing there is going to be alot of terrain expansion quickly, after opening day for most of these places.

I just picked up on this. I didn't realize they were planning to turn one of TNF chairs. Chute may very well be the most sustained pitch open anywhere right now.

After taking a closer look at the trailmap, I think the offering is going to be River Run --> Chute, not a top-to-bottom run strictly on the North Face. I'm checking with my contact at Snow to clarify.

Short drive to Belleayre, $32 or $37 lift ticket and you get a Free lift ticket for anytime after March 18, 2007. GET ONE FREE LATER LIFT TICKETS from opening day until Dec. 3! That's right - if you purchase a ski lift ticket anytime between opening day and Dec. 3, you can bring that ticket back anytime after March 18, 2007 until we close and you’ll get a free anytime lift ticket of equal value! It's like skiing for free!

Hunter will be $38 on Thrusday (Turkey day) and Friday.

i can clear it up for you. No, chute and river run never cross paths. Its Upper Canyon to River Run as one option and Chute as an entirely separate option. River Run allows them to use the shorter HSQ on the right, as it dumps you out at the top of River Run. You ski that down, ride whichever north face lift they open and ski either Chute or the canyon/rr option. I'm sure the summit lodge will be open so no need to download until you're actually done for the day.

I don't remember. Does Chute head down the entire face? Is it skier's left of Free Fall?

yeah, its skiers left of freefall under the other chair. Slightly less pitch but it covers the entire 1000 vert. In all honestly, it's a perfect setup. Yes, there is downloading, but only when you want to call it quits. Unless they dont open the summit lodge, which would be surprising. It's top to bottom as far as i look at it because i spend most of my time at Snow on the north face anyway. only problem is challenger, jaws, plummet etc arent open.

Okay. I got it now. Chute may very well be the steepest sustained run open this weekend then. Not sure what the Sunday River offering is like, but Chute is defeinitely more consistently steep than Tote Road at the Loaf, the summit blues at Sugarbush and anything that Killington is offering. Who would've guessed?

I heard back from Mount Snow. It is indeed River Run to Chute on TNF as I suspected so it doesn't look like a top-to-bottom offering on TNF. When they say "Chute", they probably mean the approach to the loading area for the lift. Lame...

i'm sorry but that makes absolutely no sense. river run literally brings you to the bottom of both lifts. Are they including the lift que as chute?????

wow, i thought killington exaggerated trail counts but this one takes the absolute grand prize of all time.
