Market Basket is the balls! Cheapest groceries in NE.

We have a Shaws and Market Basket adjacent to each other where we do our shopping. The savings is easily 20% shopping at MB for the exact same stuff. And there's always three times the amount of cars in the parking lot for MB. I've heard the reason they can be so cost effective is they own most of their real estate.

If you pay close attention Hannaford runs some super competitive meat specials. I shop their ad each week and they smoke the competition as far as specials go but MB for the staples...cheese, eggs ect....

Oh yeah and Vail still sucks

Hannaford does for sure have good deals on meats. Better produce too. A little bit better on International products; sauces and what not when I'm too lazy to chef

And yes Vail still sucks

This may be the most random hijack of this thread out of all probably 50 hijacks that this thread has been through thus far!

"Yes, I love the attention. And I fixed your post for you, DHS."

4 big box stores to grocery shop in a 1 mile radius is sweet!
Not for long, question is what will go into that large shaws building after they shut the lights off. I am guilty of over paying at grants when in the valley, like the old time feel of the place and giving the little guy business but admittedly their beer selection is horrible.

Shaw’s prices are ridiculous. I stopped going there when the cheapest sliced turkey they had was $15 a pound. I don’t North Conway is busy enough for 4 grocery stores, Shaw’s will probably be the casualty.
I have to say vail didn’t suck yesterday. Attitash was good, and nobody was skiing anything besides groomers. Completely dead, I was probably the only one under 60 yrs old for the first couple hours.

Just mapped the distance from the Cumberland Farms in Gorham to the Irving gas station in Bartlett. Can't believe it's 22 miles. Seems like it shouldn't be that far. I was a big fan of Grants when my wife used to live in Intervale, dumpy though it was. Felt like that store at the base of the Sugarloaf access road. A rip-off, sure but you're grateful to have it.

Sucks that Gorham doesn't have better options. It's a good spot.

I’ve actually never been to jackson Bartlett or North Conway. I’ve skied wildcat once so maybe that took me thru? I should prob drive down there one night for dinner and a general vibe check when I am in gorham next month

Quite a few recommendations for dining there, but you'd be driving right by Shannon Door in Jackson. Try the pizza, it's quite a joint.

In other news the market basket in North Conway is being built.
Yup, and it will force Shaws out. They've been losing biz to both Hannaford and WalMart for years. Market basket will take $$ away from all of them, but Shaw's has the most to loose...

So who currently owns Shaw's? I see that it was Albertson's and then Supervalu, but there may have been a sale of the Shaw's/Star Markets to a hedge fund in 2013 or so.
