"Since we own Mountain News and OnTheSnow.com, we can just put rain icons on the daily weather forecast in New England, every day! That will get them traveling to our Western resorts where we own the whole town. This will jump start the revenue stream!"

I didn’t know that Vail owns Onthesnow.com

If they parted with OTS, maybe they will part with Wildcat too…

Super Condor lift opened today, and I was on it within the first hour or so. It stopped 3 times going to the top & I'd say our "stopped time" totalled about 15 minutes or so.

There have been various rumors for why it hadn't opened this season given it services a lot of important terrain (not enough snow, too few workers, avalanche risk (i.e. too much snow)), but now I'm wondering if there's something wrong with it like electrical or something. If so, it sure seems like many Vail properties are having various lift problems. I'm just thankful we didn't have to be lift evaced, I was starting to get a bit worried!
The Super Condor is part of the original Park West terrain. There is lots of fun stuff off that lift.

IIRC that was one of the first "new" lifts that ASC installed at their new ski area named "the Canyons". And the rest is history as they say. ;)

I had never been on that lift before, and I was extremely impressed by the terrain from what I could see. And it feels almost private you're so off the beaten-path on the resort's border, even on a weekend like today, but as TTB said, wow, that lift looks old.

I think I'll wait a week or so to see if it runs properly before I get on it again, it felt like it was powered by a herd of hamsters.

Vail has sold off non-skiing assets routinely over the years. For example, when they acquired Okemo, they sold off a couple of nearby golf courses. They still haven't sold off a skiing property, although I am aware of locals at other Vail-owned resorts who feel the same way about their ski area as "eatskisleep" feels about Wildcat.

I've never been stuck on that lift...and I go there a lot. Never crowded too.
1st ride on that lift - $15 lift ticket Park West - maybe late 80's? 1990? good terrain on both sides of the ridge- but skiers right sun-exposed- I've never been back since the combo w PC and skied it once or twice - spend more time on lifts that skiing- 9990 Charlie is still a favorite as is Peak 5 chair. ( if thats what they call it with the double fall line under chair) Generally empty until Vail came along. ' its so crowded , no one goes there any more . .'

2024: The year pictures of lift lines on powder days at the bottom of chair 5 finally sound the death knell for Vail Resorts. It'll happen one of these years, you just have to have faith.

At least there's a second lift there now. But still, that would quickly make me hate skiing.

I think this is the #1 worst ski lift line pic example I've seen though. That's thousands of people massed in lines. I wonder how long the wait was, hours?

if that was me on vacation no way I subject my family to that. I would have rented snowshoes, XC gear, a snowmobile, or called a rest day or shopping day.

Reminds me of the last time I skied Sunday River. Chairs were shut down all over the mountain. People were just dropping their skis and poles in the snow near Barker Lodge. It took me 15 minutes to thread my way through the forest of equipment to get to the ticket line where I waited 30 minutes to get a refund. Even though the lifts were shut down all over the mountain, the lemmings in line were forking over $100+ to stand in the cold with 5,000 of their new best friends. This is why I never ski weekends or holidays. I'm not a masochist or a lemming.

The issue is by the time you know the line is that long at 5 and 17 you are on the backside and trapped!
Think if I ever go there again I would have my skins with me!

Wildcat could be first Northeast Vail resort to 100% open, assuming Hairball retains enough snow (potential refresh on Fri) and snowmaking on Wildcat Pitch into Lower Wildcat finishes today or tomorrow. How quickly things change in a matter of 3 weeks. Elevation matters (sorry, Attitash).

Crotched looks primed to join the 100% percent club this weekend as well.

Crotched will wind up with too much R word to hit 100%. Was there yesterday, the old T-Bar line was open but thin as all heck. Any R, that line is done. Fun day though, they have definitely made a ton of snow since my last day there. Do have to say I do not like the NCC1707 park set up. Jupiter's is their best run but not having the lower run to ski straight into coming off that pitch blows.
