Wrong again, 366 this year. You just can't get anything right!!!
You’re always “right” in your own mind. Do you even need to come to the internet to get verification?

But if you need an echo chamber, create your own Facebook group of yes-men.

I think my post was not clear. I was referring to the Epic Northeast Value at $613 being something most any family can afford. Of course there are cheaper offerings as you folks have pointed out. I still maintain that buying a 4 pack of day tickets months in advance is in the same category of passes as taking your money whether you use them or not. No, Vail is not alone and not even the worst. But I digress I'm beating a dead horse.

IKON has always tried to promote itself as a more premium experience.

Is it though? Not in my limited experience.

Sugarbush? Windham? Killington? Solitude? Camelback? Brighton? These dont really scream "premium" places.

Maybe Deer Valley I suppose, but from what everyone says, they're running that place straight into the s*****r.

Those prices are crazy good, especially when you buy more than one day. We bought two and it'll only cost $104 total per day for the three of us to ski.

You are not wrong (technically), but the massive, Vegas strip neon-light, 3-alarm fire noticeable, caveat that you are leaving completely out of this "Vail is a great deal" narrative, is that for that "crazy good" deal, you are one of the relatively few people (on a percent basis) choosing to ski at a place most people don't want to ski at.

Thank you for your lesson in semantics. We are all so much better off for it.

How is that "semantics" - she is literally 100% factually correct.

It's the only reason Vail sells this "deal" in the first place. It's smart. I wonder how many go unredeemed. Unlike Gift Card accounting, they really do expire if not used.

The first time I went to Solitude (maybe 2008) I actually did get a premium vibe from it, but part of that was it was dead there, which made it feel exclusive :ROFLMAO:. Facilites seemed pretty nice at the time.

What made Solitude good was that it WAS quiet compared to the other Cottonwood areas. Had that been my first Cottonwoods area to visit I’d probably like it more. But since I ski Alta, Brighton, and Snowbird, it’s a tough sell.

I’ve known many folks from here and back east who rave about Solitude because it WAS their first taste of the Cottonwoods back in the day. It’s changed with IKON but I’ve been hearing anecdotally that the parking reservations and fees have indeed mitigated crowding.

Honestly they’ve quietly walked away from that in their marketing. They’re still trying to be “slightly better” than Epic. It’s to justify the higher price. And their biggest flaw is the crowding (like Vail). Many of the IKON partners are mitigating crowds.

Even if you do a higher tier pass that gets you Stowe etc , the value is still superior to Alterra pre-bought day passes. That's my primary point. Vail properties offer more for budget conscious, infrequent skiers than Altera does.

The reason I pointed out the low tier one for Vails NH properties is to compare what's available at Loon.

You people argue endlessly (which I’ve been accused of) over which is “better”, completely ignoring FOR WHOM!

For people who live close to one or another resort, all it matters is the price of their “home” mountain. They’ve chosen that mountain based on the skiing and the location. If it happens to be Vail, great for the lower price (“good”). If the crowd comes, too bad. Their perspective decides whether that’s “better” or “worse”. But either way, it’s something they got stuck with. That represents the majority of this forum.

The only people who have any skin in the game (of argument) are those who don’t live near any of them. They (we) have the option to choose where to go. IKON has more options in terms of terrain and geographic location. So we can pretty much guarantee good snow as long as we’re ready to go some place, even some place we’ve never before. But that comes with higher price on the pass. So depends on the perspective, that’s either “better” or ”worse”.

Trying to argue which is “better” by removing the context is exactly arguing for argument sake!

But this is summer. What else do you come to a ski forum for but to argue endlessly about things that don’t matter! ;)

This! I live roughly equidistant (not that close) from vail, ikon, or other. I chose other. So did my brother and nephew so we could all ski together. The only downside is that I did not get to see my regular ski friends very much as they are married to vail due to their location (very close). Did manage some days with them plus a few out west to end the season. Will do the same this year if I can.

Since I can ski Soli unrestricted...ill be checking it out much more now.
I like Solitude. I know the layout is a little weird, but there's a lot of good stuff there. The new (well not so new now) Summit lift was a good improvement. Have had some runs in the Honeycomb Canyon that are burned into the memory banks.

A minute from the Alta exit off the I-15!

I don't have a lot of days there... but there's a reason. It really doesn't feel like big mountain skiing. Lots of pod skiing with incredibly short verticals in each, half are under 1,000 vert. Zero lifts over 1,400 vert.

But I also wish Alta had another lift or 2 with 1,500+ vert. I love getting tram laps at the Bird! Runs go on forever!
